Don Shows not being on the sideline for the game played a factor. He got knocked out the week before and had to sit in the press box.

Barbe won, no doubt. Then they promptly went to the dome and laid a big turd on the field.

Proving the week before was their state championship.

I’m not saying they were the best but worth mentioning is the Haynesville dynasty in the 90’s, specifically the teams in 94 and 95 that had Bobby Ray Tell. That had to be at least the best small school team ever.

They should've scored 50...

I get they had an awesome offense, but defenses win championships. For that defensive collapse in the fourth certainly was the game changer.

but WMs offense would have been the difference against Ruston's defense.

1990 Ruston D was equally as good. Some would say their D was better than their O, not including they had one of the best FG kickers in the state that year. Or am I remembering the K wrong? Somewhere in that time period they had a really good one but don’t remember exact year, may have been in the late 80s.

West Monroe always full of excuses when they get beat.

Saw that state final game. In addition to having a great team, Rummel had a great plan, don't see it often, from the very first play of the game, they ran the play clock down to 1 second before snapping the ball, they ran the ball well, and shortened the game considerably. To beat Barbe during that time you had to take possessions away from their very potent offense.

Having seen both play I disagree. WM was better all-around than Ruston, but damn both teams were amazing.

I would have loved to have seen the 98 versions play because those teams were probably both schools strongest teams. Evangel would have one that one as well. As they did every other time in the dome.

98 jammed at Tech. It was a 14-14 tie.

Probably the biggest crowd that stadium had seen.

Although '99 Evangel beat WM for the 5A championship in Evangels first year they were allowed to move to 5A.
the hype on this game was insane

The buildup was all over the local channels, they did like full page sports reports in the Shreveport Times. It was all the guys talked about in high school that week

Agree with 1990 Ruston, but I'd put the 2010 Franklinton state champs up with almost anybody.
