I can’t remember the name of the gym, but I always enjoy watching Purdue home games.

Mackey Arena and yes it is intimate and loud. I am partial to Assembly Hall in Indiana though. The place has a special feel to it when you are there the entire packed house knows exactly what they are looking at.

Biased opinion: Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis can hold its own with the best of them ( as was evidenced last Friday vs Dayton). It was one of the toughest venues to play for opponents in the Majerus era.

maybe not lesser known, but small. Gonzaga has a great atmosphere.

Gotta give Oregon credit, they always liked being on top of you and the fan close to the action.

But their court is ugly and distracting.

Oklahoma State. The rows of seats are damn near stacked vertically. It’s a great venue for a basketball game.

Remember the early 90s when UNO and Tulane were both raucous

Washington’s Hec Edmundson Pavilion definitely makes this list when the team is good. Yeah, I am biased but when the team is winning it checks many boxes:

* old, historic venue (no NCAA D1 Men’s Basketball team has won more home games at one venue. UW is the only with 1000+ home wins)

* crazy student section (when the team is good) directly behind team benches. The “Ernie (ole!) Kent Fiesta” game is student section HOF worthy.

* TV and radio crews mid level opposite the students and benches

* the western windows that provide natural light for daytime weekend games

* arena is also home to the Husky Football team locker room. An underground tunnel links it to Husky Stadium. Was also home to visiting football teams too until the recent mega remodel of Husky Stadium

Old Mac Court at Oregon was amazing. Too bad they ruined it.

Maryland’s stadium in College Park is very underrated. That place gets loud and hostile during big games.

I used to bet on (and thus watch) a lot of small conference college basketball, and I remember in general the small school northeastern gyms were always packed and raucous, more so than small schools in other parts of the country. Guess it makes sense because there’s not much big time college football in those areas and outside winter weather is so harsh.

Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg looks like it gets going on TV.

Their fans really don’t care about hoops

shite half the time a good chunk of students show up in UNC or Duke fear when they are in town.

Illinois State is a great place to catch a game especially when they are good. Not a bad seat in a 10k seat arena. Best to catch them playing Bradley there.

I'm surprised Vandy's Memorial Gym hasn't been mentioned yet. It's a weird place and great homecourt advantage when they're good.

As for smaller conferences, they say War Memorial at San Francisco is a tough place to play.
