Taylor is by far the greatest Defensive player ever.

I'd probably argue the most influential defensive player ever due to his dominance from the pass rush I just never understood where the whole "LT=greatest defensive player ever" argument came from maybe because he was for a New York team and was the last defensive player in league history to win MVP, from what I've read and observed LT wasn't a great fundamental player nor was he a threat from the pass defense angle which is basically why he infiltrated the backfield almost all the time throughout his career. Was the best at it but facts are facts bro.

Well considering teams drafted people to beat him and conceived offenses just to stop him, there is your answer. You think LT could not cover? Do you not watch football? He would drop in zones. He was a monster.

Lott was a Safety, you could go away from him and when he was a Corner teams went after him, which is why the Niners moved him to Safety.

Dick Night Trane Lane CB
Mel Blount CB
Rod Woodson CB/S
Mike Haynes CB/S
Ronnie Lott as a Nickel

That would be your ultimate DB group.

The NFL created the Mel Blount Rule to neutralize Mel Blount because of how dominating he was as a pass defender, the NFL created the facemask and clothesline rules to neutralize Dick "Night Train" Lane because of all the stuff he pulled in dominating defensive football, the prohibition of the headslap to stop Deacon Jones, if the reasons people hype up LT as this inarguable greatest defensive football player above all others is because he was dominant during the cable TV era, played for a New York team and influenced the game then I'd buy that argument but you can't solely argue the influential component for LT when there's these other legends that literally have rules named after them which basically created the modern NFL context in terms of offensive production and the like. It just represents inconsistency in logic.

Ronnie Lott was a first-team all-pro TWICE when he played CB, one of those all-pros was achieved WHEN HE WAS A ROOKIE, the dude was a defensive Swiss Army knife, first-team all pro as corner, free safety and strong safety

For my money it was Jack Lambert. He was as devastating as LT ever was especially against the run....and he was scarier to look at

He was a first team All Pro because people threw at him instead of Wright. I get it you love Lott. But teams took chances at Lott as a Corner. They do not throw at guys that can make plays and they thought that Wright was the better cover guy. I do not understand how you can not figure this out?

The Niners moved him to Safety because he started losing his Cover skills.

If Jack Lambert had emerged as a dominating player like LT did during the cable TV era, the LT vs Jack Lambert GOAT defender arguments would've been LEGENDARY, dude was a hoss

Here's a curveball wild-card: Harry Carson, the guy everyone ignores because they're too busy sucking LT dick but dude was a baller as a MIKE, the Crunch Bunch and Big Blue Wrecking Crew WRECKED shite throughout the 1980s

No Carson wasn't as good as Taylor or Banks. But nice try.

Harry Carson was the glue that held that madhouse together but Banks and Taylor were the best players of that defense. Just because he dumped Gatorade on Parcells doesn't mean he was the best player, just he had seniority and was a Captain.

It's LT. And it isn't close.

Ronnie Lott is a distant second and Mike Singletary 3rd.

No you are being a punk. If you think Harry Carson was better than LT and Carl Banks. Carl Banks was one of the top 5 LB'ers when he played in that group

They never mentioned Carson as top 5 LB'ers,

It was usually
LT
Tippett
Lambert
Singletery
Banks

Now some argue and I agree that Chip Banks was better than Carl Banks.

Carson never made an all Decade team yet Carl Banks did. Carson is in HoF due to where he played and longevity. What are you trying to prove?

How the hell does that happen? Carl Banks made the all-pro team ONCE during the 1980s while Carson was 2x first-team all-pro and 3x second-team all-pro that same decade, hall of fame voters/sportswriters are weird man

Taylor is up there as far as safeties, but I'll take Lott over him.

LT is the best defensive players of all time, at any position. He quite literally changed the game, both how offenses were designed and how his position was played.

I think if you asked 100 GMs what defensive player they'd take first in a draft of all-time greats...

You'd get Lawrence Taylor or Reggie White as the answer for 90/100.

Some people like Peej would take Butkus.

Some would maybe want the longevity and versality of Ronnie Lott.

Some people under 30 would take Ed Reed.
