The college I went to got absorbed by the University of North Georgia, but before it was known as Gainesville State College.
The mascot was originally the Lakers, but it was changed at some point to the Fighting Geese. No joke, the reason for the name was because there were two ponds on campus that the local geese were notorious for swarming out of nowhere, terrorizing anything or anyone around.
We had no athletic teams, but we had a mascot costume for this goose (named Laker). One year I got a federal work study job as an office assistant for some random ladies in the administrative office and was 5 minutes away from getting roped into showing up to some Christmas party they were putting on dressed as a goose. Fortunately for me, it didn’t happen.
