10. Has had leukemia since March or May. Can't remember which one I read. Sounds like Kirk is using the rich man's money to try to buy him some tike where you and I might have had to call it. I might try the same if I had his means but at a certain point you've got a 10 year old dog with cancer who's lost use of his back legs and won't eat. That might be your sign

Anyways, hope Ben can pull through this, but it's tough. I, like many of y'all, know all too well how tough.

I went through this with my childhood dog. I decided enough was enough when she stopped eating and stopped wagging her tail and attempting to standup when she saw me. She just laid there with a pitiful look in her eyes. It’s been 12 years and I still get a tear in my eye when I think about that pitiful look. So I feel for you Herby.

Feel terrible for him but a holistic doctor? Damn dude face the hard truth. If the dog doesn't have use of his back legs time to man up and do the right thing.

10 for a big dog isn't bad. He needs to let him go. And yes, that sucks.

Chemo with old dogs is a bridge too far for me. They can't consent, they have no idea what is making them sick, and in their minds they are bad dogs because they start losing control.

It’s one of life’s toughest choices on having to put a dog down, especially one you consider a best friend.
I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same thing Kirk is doing, dogs are awesome and I genuinely fear the day mine passes on. Dogs see the best and worst of us and give us nothing but their best

Dogs are one of the greatest gifts to mankind. I like most dogs more than most humans. They’re the best. God bless them.

Man that sucks. Losing a dog is hard. Some of you have no freaking spine whatsoever. Whether you like Herby or not, it doesn't matter. A man and his dog will always have a bond. My prayers to the tough guy.

This! I cry like a bitch everytime I lose one. They become your most loyal buddies.

We bring our dogs to a farm vet clinic, when our 10YO mutt got cancer, he told me we can do it, but he would seriously advise against it. Told us how when he was first out of school he had his dog put on chemo and he was miserable for 2 months and died anyway. We elected not to, lived another year and went anyway.

Once a dog stops eating, it’s time. At that point the dog wants to die, but can’t do it himself.

Hate that for herbstreit, we poke a lot of fun at him on this board and others but losing a pet is never fun. I think most of us can sympathize.

Herbie knw this was coming before the start of the season and it's all part of his plan to get viewers back on his side after a rough last year or so with the fans.

Hug yours a bit harder tonight.

Some of yall are completely ridiculous. It couldn’t possibly be that Herbstreit travels a ton and wanted to take his dog he doesn’t have much time left with, with him and then ESPN saw it as an opportunity for good content.

The dog is named “Ben.”
The human goes by “Herbie.”
Bizarre on both accounts.
