The arena is too big for this league. But there's nothing BR can do about this.
FPHL arenas are mostly 3,000 - 3,500 seats. The Centroplex would be the largest arena in the league. Hopefully the league realizes that when these games don't sell out. At least to me it should send a good message if BR sells 5,000 tickets per game when the arenas in the league only seat 3,500.

Actually a good point, and an upvote for still referring to it as The Centroplex.

FIF but that neither here nor there as I agree with your point these arenas such as coast coliseum, centroplex are too large for a full season of hockey in the south.

First game is this Thursday, looks like a lot more tickets have sold so should be a decent atmosphere

I went see the Seawolves a couple weeks back. Its pretty fun. High scoring since the goalies are trash and they get paid like an extra $100 for every fight. So you can count on at least 1-2 fights each game

I found my old Kingfish red jersey the other day in a closet. I got it when I was young. May have to break it back out.

Who all on here is planning on going?

I'll be there with my wife, two young boys and her mom.
The wife has only been to one hockey game in her life (G2 of this past SCF, so she's hooked) and it'll be the first hockey game for the boys.
The boys have been obsessed since the Avs run last year, and I can't wait for them to see it in person!

Hockey is not gonna make it long term
It was a fad at first and then BR couldn't support it
Baton Rouge needs to pursue a G league team in NBA or build a downtown baseball stadium with river views and get a minor league baseball team

The biz model on minor league hockey makes it very dependent on gate draws, and the minor league affiliate does not get financial reward from their parent club like minor league baseball does.
This is a different league than the one the Kingfish were in. It's had a more sustained business model, and it's been successful (for what it is) in most every market since the SPHL'S founding.
One thing that hockey has going for it, especially in a college town, is its uniqueness. There are no LSU-sponsored competitors for the product, unlike a G league (wgas) and minor league baseball. The Knoxville Ice Bears, for example, are very stable.
Don't have a dog in the fight as far as Baton Rouge and its ability to support a team goes, but I'm a proponent of hockey in Southern markets as a general rule.

The should start up a team with then name 'Lousiana _____'
Then go to Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, and Lafayette and split the games between them. That would be about 11-12 games each.
Not sure if LC and Cajundome still have the equipment in place?
I would think they still have the boards and glass at least.
Do the same thing with indoor soccer. They use the same boards.
That would be about 20 games per location.
Good fans may travel between the towns to catch the action.

Bought two a few weeks ago. All the seat on the first level apparently sold.

My source was reddit, so it may or may not be true. It wouldn’t surprise me though

I'll pass on sweating my arse off at a baseball game in the June-August heat and humidity of BR, not to mention the chance of getting murdered or something
