My favorite Aaron fact is that you could take away all of his HRs and he’d still have over 3,000 hits.

yes he did
steroids have always been banned in baseball.

They did not have a drug testing policy at the time.

so 100 mph in a 55 mph zone isn't speeding if there is no cop with a radar gun present?

In terms of dominating your peers, it’s Ruth and it isn’t close

He shouldn’t have brazenly used the juice. He got jealous of McGwire and Sosa, juiced up and brought his tarnished legacy upon himself.

If he had walked away from the game after his 2000 season he would have gone down as one of the consensus top 10 guys of all-time and first ballot HoFer. But no. Not only did he break the rules, he lied about doing it, continued to do it, refused to admit any wrongdoing even though it’s been proven he did it. He has no one to blame but himself.

not too many players in that era were turning down millions in salary

would love to see his career numbers if he didn't lose his age 24-26 and age 33-34 seasons to the military.

Should be very little doubt of that. And if you want to get it right you put the best contact hitter in baseball history, Pete Rose, in the HOF as well.

I mean, given that the biggest systemic cheater in baseball is none other than the Commish, Rob Manfred, himself, why not?

Bonds won 3 MVP’s in the early 1990’s without ever using steroids.

was a damn good player.
but averaged fewer than 30 Homers a year before turning 30 years old.
then suddenly started averages 46 through his 30s.

would be in hall of fame, but would not be getting mentioned as the absolute all time greatest of the sport without the juice.

Look, I get that you have a dog in this fight as you’re a Braves fan and that’s fine, but I’m not moving any goalposts. At their respective heights, Mantle was better.

It’s laughable to mention rings in an argument for how great a baseball player is. It’s the ultimate team game and the sport with the most parity.

To mention a bunch of Yankees players rings who played with some of the most stacked squads in baseball history, and compare it to Bonds having none is ridiculous.

By your definition Bill Russell is the GOAT of Basketball.

also have to consider that there were 8 teams in AL for most of the Yankees success until sometime during Mantle's era when it went to 10. Having a stacked squad followed by only one round of postseason makes the comparison between Bonds era and the dominant Yankees run null and void. I'm honestly more impressed by what the late 90s Yankees accomplished than what the Ruth era teams accomplished in terms of WS championships.

That said, when comparing players across eras the only way you can do so is by the way they dominated their peers. With that in mind, it's Ruth, Williams, Bonds, and Gehrig followed by Hornsby Trout and Mantle. This is hitting only (adjusted OPS+). I don't really care to try and add in the defensive shite that WAR accounts for.

I'm not sure you can put a guy in that openly broke the rules

They put David Ortiz in who unlike Bonds, actually has a failed test for steroids on his record.

He was on pace to becoming the undisputed best player ever. He made a really bad decision that ostracized him for eternity.

If they allow Barry Bonds into the hall, they need to let Pete Rose and Joe Jackson in.

Aaron, Bonds, Cobb, Collins, Gehrig, Hornsby, Mays, Musial, Speaker, Wagner and Williams were all better than Mantle. But I am sure you will disagree given you’re trolling.
