The thing about Pierce is that he knows how to run a college baseball program. He can deal with the 11.5, particularly problematic at a school like Tulane (but can actually be used to our advantage, with some university help). There was no learning curve.
I'm sure Andy can evaluate talent and recruit, but don't know about the admin side, which is critical.

Riser et al I think need more time; Blake Dean seems to have similar credentials (I don't consider being an alumnus a particular credential; it would only help in retention if that becomes an issue).

Riser is still a little green but should be a great candidate in a few more years. But hopefully Pierce stays.

Kendall Rogers thinks Alabama is definitely interested in Pierce but he doesn't think Pierce would take the Alabama job with the Texas job still open.

Yeah I really just don't see him going to Bama unless they throw a good amount of money at him, which I don't think Bama is that committed to baseball. If he doesn't get the Texas job I could really see him staying put to wait for the Rice job to open up when Graham finally hangs it up.

they just rebuilt their stadium... but the SEC West is 3 national seeds, another host, and Arkansas who will be back eventually... Bama could be a solid 2 seed and still be 6th in the West

I'm not buying @SkippersDugout as a reliable source. I mean it may be true but I'm going to need to hear it from a better source

cannizaro has to be the first choice. then riser.

either way, it's an upgrade for tulane. nothing against pierce, that's just my opinion.

I don't know about that at all

Calling an assistant who hasn't done anything as a head coach an upgrade on Pierce with his resume is insane.

That's true. Honestly I had forgotten they did that. Maybe they are trying to make more of a commitment to baseball for the future and would throw a good amount of money at Pierce then.

I just think Pierce's heart is in Texas, but money and a better conference may be enough to get him.

Well he was born in Houston, played college ball at UH, coached high school baseball in Houston area, coached at Rice under Graham and won a championship with him, Head coach at Sam Houston State for a while.

Yeah I think it's safe to say that all things equal he would want to be in his home sate over Alabama.

cannizaro will do better things at tulane than pierce. that's my opinion. and i understand pierce is an excellent college baseball coach who has done great at tulane.

i don't think that's a stretch. you talk to everyone about canno, you get the same response.
