I will say Baker Mayfield is both a better QB and arguably has better intangibles than Sam Darnold. I think the 19 mil contract for a top 25 ish qb is mostly the issue here.

Once that bit gets sorted, some one will pick him up or trade for him.

We’d have to wait for the salary to get cleared up and tbh, we already have 1 good QB, 1 good backup, 1 great winning emergency QB, and 1 project.

Not sure where Baker would fit. I’d tend to agree maybe if we didn’t have Winston already.

Nope. Would rather have Goff.

I wonder how this will affect QBs in the future. Baker obviously played hurt last year to try to help his team, and it feels like people are holding it against him.

It's a brutal business. Like in the NBA when Isaiah Thomas playing through hip injury in the playoffs sent him from the verge of signing a max deal to bouncing back and forth between the G League and 10 day contracts. Teams can't afford to have any loyalty with in these situations.

As a Bears fan I would take him. I don't see Fields doing anything. I'd like to see Trubisky with a different offensive scheme. That is way past fantasy now. Fields from what I've seen is even worse. Fumbles are ridiculous and he doesn't have the consistency he should with the passing.

He’s not a great player, and you also have to deal with his persona. Just not worth it for most teams.

I mean he is a starter in the league. It has to do with the money on his deal.

Teams think the browns will just cut him.

Oh, for Chrissakes! A freaking totem pole in D.C. has better intangibles than Sam Darnold...

He took a big gamble playing hurt.

I don't fault for not being tough.

He's still pretty young a lot more learning to do.

Watch Baker find his way somewhere else and thrive while the Browns start sucking arse again.

Some are saying league is blackballing Browns because they set new precedence giving 100% paid contract to new qb.

If Browns wait too long and cut him they are on hook for $18m. So their trick is finding a team who will share in some of that cost in a trade. But teams know this and are waiting it out.

As for Baker he took a team so shitty and won with them. Had they started him rookie year they make playoffs. Had a rough Soph season no question. Then made playoffs and beat rival Pitt. Was RB fumble away from winning playoff game 2 vs KC. Then last year played hurt but its because he loves the game and wanted to win for fans.

He had 4 OC’s and 4 HC’s. Too much roster churn. Changing OC means new playbooks every year for every player. That reduces plays when other players don’t know the plays (roster churn).

Baker had every possible obstacle thrown his way and got them a playoff win. Look at what they had to start with. And new staffs means different schemes with existing players who may not match scheme. No stability at all.

He’ll get a team this year or next. Browns will then into Clowns as they always do.
