Here we go

quote:

Hours after the Carolina Panthers hired Frank Reich as the team’s head coach on Thursday, lawyers for former interim coach Steve Wilks ripped the decision.

Wilks is a co-plaintiff in racial discrimination lawsuit initially filed against the NFL a year ago by Brian Flores, the former Miami Dolphins hack coach and current Pittsburgh Steelers senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach. After the Panthers fired Matt Rhule after a 1-4 start, Wilks went 6-6.

“We are shocked and disturbed that after the incredible job, Coach Wilks did as the interim coach, including bringing the team back into playoff contention and garnering the support of the players and fans that he was passed over for the head coach position by David Tepper,” attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor and John Elefterakis said in a statement to Front Office Sports.

“There is a legitimate race problem in the NFL, and we can assure you that we will have more to say in the coming days.”

Agreed the players on active rosters do not reflect the demographic make up of the nation. Affirmative action needs to be implemented immediately

What about the demographic makeup of the league? Wouldn't that be a better way of looking at it?

It's almost better to not hire black coaches, because you are criticized or considered racist if you don't promote them or ever fire them.

Some Saints fans legitimately believe Dennis Allen is racist for not going back to Winston. Keep in mind the Saints re-signed Winston and pursued Watson with everything they had. I wanted Winston to play over Dalton, but it was never a racial issue. Neither were worth getting emotionally defensive over.

I don't know if we can go a day or week in sports without some faux racial issue.

I mean they hired a guy who was fired because he was losing. Was Reich really the most qualified?

Also, Reich was fired with a winning record at 40-33. If he was black I'm sure some would also make that firing a racial issue.

Brian Flores with a losing record at 24-25 was fired and some claimed he was fired for being black.

This crap is so tiresome.

37-28 prior to this year where he was prematurely fired without being allowed to finish the season.

That's damn strong considering Andrew Luck completely and utterly screwed their franchise by retiring out of nowhere. Pretty impressive what he was able to do given they never expected Luck to retire.

I would argue the comedy show that was the rest of the division is what put the panthers in “playoff contention”

No. Do you really want to go down the hole of being grouped by race? That’s not going to end up well for Mr. Wilks if we discriminate based on color.

Why doesn’t the league look like the demographics of the country though?

Jim Cladwell was 36-28 with the Lions his only losing season was 7-9 they fired him for Matt Patricia who went 14-33 and whose best season was 6-10. Now he’s old 68 I think so I wouldn’t expect him to get another job, but let’s not act like Frank Reich, who I agree should not have been fired mid season is some amazing candidate. Sean Payton sure but Reich?

I know most of you are invested in the resisting any call of racism as an issue and want to push back which I do get it has become a “boy who cried wolf” type of complaint but it’s either naive or willful ignorance to say the coaching hires are 100% merit the “best” candidate. We will see how it shakes out, but if guys like Ryans, Frazier and the Denver DC want jobs but get passed over will recycled coaches and unqualified clown like Jeff Saturday get jobs then I’m sorry qualified black coaches have a legit gripe.

I think Goodell should institute that all HC going forward have to be non white.

It's time for the NFL to have a Chinese HC

Wilks did get a lot more out of the Panthers after he took over than I think most thought he would. They started 1-4 and traded CMC.

But the NFC South was a POS division.

These were the wins by the Panthers with Wilks as HC.

21-3 over Tampa
25-15 over ATL
23-10 over Denver
30-24 over Seattle
37-23 over Lions
10-7 over Saints

don't forget DJ Moore getting flagged for a 15 yard penalty after removing his helmet on the Hail Mary in the first game of the series with ATL

In all aspects, NFL teams just want to win and promote by merit. Rosters mostly black, plenty black assistant coaches. But owners draw the line at HC?

The NFC South was an abortion. I could have brought them into playoff contention as coach with all you guys as my position coaches.
