He's a left handed and worse version of Collin McHugh

Mike Ford doesn’t belong in the same sentence as Grossman. Grossman was an underwhelming deadline pick up, but at least he’s an MLB player, unlike Ford

Brad Hand vs. LHH:

.143/.276/.204 -- .480 OPS
with 0 HR, 20 K in 59 PA

This is nice

We just got Brad Hand for nothing.

Great move

Lower average against and slugging on the road (which makes sense, he has been in Coors).

Higher OBP on the road.

FIP on the road is a good bit higher than his current home numbers.

Hasn't given up a HR to a lefty all year.

Guessing we are betting on some positive regression on those road numbers closer to what hes been doing in a park thats hard to pitch in.

You get my point though. He is a low cost hopeful reclamation project that AA does too often at these deadlines.

He will fit right in with what we currently have, erratic and you never know what you'll get when he pitches. He is a Grossman/Mike Ford type of add.

edit - He reminds me of Will Smith. That is what we picked up.

At the very least you feel marginally good about him against lefties. if he comes in and faces even just one or two lefties in a playoff series in a tight spot that could be the difference in a game.

Eh, he sucks. Worth kicking the tires on though. See if Rick Kranitz can work his magic.

I think this is the first of many bullpen moves today. Sorta like what the Chris Martin trade was in 2019

He’s actually having a really good year as a platoon guy in Seattle

Talkin Baseball-

The Braves will be Brad Hand's ninth MLB team. He'll become the first player in MLB history to play for every NL East team

Not an exciting move, but we gave up nothing, so it’s not the worst roll of the dice.

If it’s the only move we make then, it’s terrible. But I think this is only the beginning

Fwiw, the latest MLBTR update said Mets and Astros were close last night on Verlander deal, and holdup was the players rather than financials.

The Rangers got the Mets to pay the $57 mil Scherzer was owed to $22.5 for L. Acuna.

Verlander owed $92 including 2025 option. If the Mets would eat roughly half that, it would be with AJSS and two other prospect arms
