Eh. Wheeler is from here(Dallas) and he has the same agent as Chipper, Mac, Olson, Morton and several others(BB Abbott) so it's not completely out of the question that he could sign here.

None of that addressed the money issue, which was my main point.

If we won't pay a now 29 year old established starter who has been with the team and produced for us big money, why would we bring in a 33 year old from outside and pay him probably at least close to what we would have had to pay the 29 year old?

bc the 33 yr old is a safer bet in the postseason than the 29 yr old

Orgs don't make decisions based on small sample sizes like the postseason. If they are worried about his health, thats a different story.

Max being a bad postseason pitcher is one of the dumbest takes in this entire thread, and someone has parroted it on damn near every page.

2-4 4.57 ERA with 74 hits given up in 65 innings. his postseason struggles arent an opinion.

Also 1-0 in world-series deciding games.

will forever love him for that. but thats the smallest of sample sizes and hes struggled otherwise. again, not an opinion and the fact that he isnt locked up clearly shows the organization has concerns

We won’t re-sign him because we’re cheapskates when it comes to starting pitching. Not because he’s not worth what he’s going to get paid.

Fried won’t be worth whatever big contract he gets. He just isn’t no matter how much you Fried-fanboys want him to be. He has shown us what he is and that’s a guy that is fantastic once in a while then is league average for multiple starts and then gets injured. I’ll always love him for the 2021 post season but I also love Jorge Soler, Eddie Rosario, and Joc Pederson for that but I ain’t throwing big money at them at this point either.

I'm sure they'll try to attract another team, but I can't imagine many organizations will be beating down the doors to come there. For the time being, I assume it will only be used for the MSU/Ole Miss/USM baseball series and the high school state championships. Nice intimate park.

I have many fond memories of old Smith Wills stadium watching the old Jackson Mets in the early to mid 80s, as well as seeing MSU and Ole Miss play there,
plus an exhibition game with Team USA for the 84 Olympics.

As a kid with the Braves in the NL West we hated the Dodgers, so it was OK to like the Mets. The 86 team had a lot of guys who had come thru Jackson. Of course, ironically Bostons Calvin Shiraldi had also played there.

Because a 34 year old pitcher will likely require a 3 year deal, not the 6-7 year deal Fried likely gets. AA has more issues with the years on deals to pitchers moreso than the money, hence he's signed lots of relievers to rather high dollar 3 year deals.

AA isn't going to have any choice but to sign a good #2/#1 starter next year if he wants us to continue to compete for a world series. And I don't think it's just a coincidence he setup all these trades this off-season so that the money was front loaded into this season.

But if you're willing to pay a 34 year old pitcher through age 37, why would you not be willing to pay a 30 year old pitcher through age 37 knowing that you get 3 extra "prime" years?

And with the way contracts constantly increase, what you'd be paying Fried on the backend on the deal will be considered a bargain for a LHP by the time we get to 2030.

Braves signing Jose Perdomo for international signing bonus record $6.0M. 17 y/o Venezuelan SS. #1 international FA per Baseball America.

60 hit tool and 55 overall per MLB Pipeline. Baseball America throws a Gleyber Torres hit tool comp on him.

Will be the Braves #1 prospect upon signing next week per MLBPipeline.

Yeah, mentioned it a few posts up.

It is interesting that he classifies as an international signing. He is originally from Venezuela, but has been going to high school at the IMG Academy in Florida the last couple of years. Not sure how that all works in living stateside, but still able to skip the draft.

Regardless, it's good that we got a talent that is already used to the country, so we likely will be able to start him in A-ball instead of stashing him in DSL for a year.

Popped at the same showcase as Salas.

His assignment will be interesting for sure.
