Holy shite, no, signing a 17-year-old who may or may not wear a Braves uniform is not a greater "coup" than re-signing arguably the best LHP currently in the game.

Thank you

I don’t hate Fried at all. I view all players as commodities. They are just numbers. You Fried fanboys want the Braves to give him the largest contract in Braves history because he had 1 great post season that he was handsomely paid for already. If I thought he would be worth an extension of the size the Dodgers or Yankees or Mets will pay him then I’d be all for signing him. But he is deteriorating right in front of us.

And yes, in 2028 when Fried is an afterthought and Perdomo is our starting SS I would call that a pretty solid move by AA. What’s funny is some of you who believe you are so smart yet are on the opposite side of AA while I’m on the same side as him. You trade for and extend younger players and don’t pay someone for what you already paid them for, ie. Freddie and Dansby. Both of those guys were paid a nice ransom for their services. They wanted more and left and I’m glad someone else is paying for their older years. When Freddie hits the wall, Olsen will still be hitting the chop house. Dansby made his own call for his personal reasons and won’t see the playoffs again. Fried absolutely should let some team give him a kings ransom his older years but it won’t be the Braves unless he comes off some years (which he shouldn’t). All this Fried is the the best lefty in the game are just empty words. Even at full health he 8s a reliable pitcher. Some games he’s great, other games he’s league average. You don’t give that player the largest contract in team history.

He has been the best lefty in the game over the last 4 seasons.

I have never suggested extending him or even weighed in on it but diminishing how good he’s been in the past in order to keep pounding away at this narrative you’ve created is unnecessary. You can be against extending him without acting like he hasn’t been one of the best and most productive pitchers in the sport.

He’s 43-15 with a 2.70 ERA and 3.03 FIP over the last 4 seasons.

I know you’re fixated on how supposedly unreliable and inconsistent he is but how much money would you pay for a pitcher on the open market if you were guaranteed that production over the next 4 years if it included 4 division titles and that guy dominating a WS clinch game? $40-50M a year?

Honestly I think that dude is pre-coping for when we let Max walk, his arguments aren’t coherent at all

You guys sure do get worked up over words on a message board. All I care about are actions. Fried has his chance to to prove he’s the best lefty in the game (which doesn’t mean squat if all lefties stink) or more importantly, he has a chance to actually lead this team deep into the playoffs and not disappear in the post season like he has for 2 years in a row. I hope he wins every game and leads us to another World Series title.

And I’m not pre-coping in anyway. I’ve said several times that we should trade Fried right now and get something of value out of him before he signs elsewhere. I simply believe his best baseball is behind him and he is now in the category of injury prone up and down former Ace so I’d rather get some value for him before he goes 12-7 and misses 2 months. But since it doesn’t look like we’ll trade him then I hope we get the good Max this October.

What on earth?

Anything we get in return for Fried would directly hinder our chances of winning a world series in 2024. We're in win now mode. Trading Fried for top prospects would just be kicking the can down the road, which is the exact opposite of what you should be doing with this roster.

Hader to the Astros, 5 years $95m.

Largest contract for a reliever in history.

Figured we were out on him after the movement in the pen earlier in the offseason, and wasn't optimistic even before then tbh.

Didn't the Mets give Edwin Diaz 5/$100M?

So I just re-read the Passan tweet, he said "Largest present-day value contract for a relief pitcher in baseball history"

Something is a little off with this list.

AAV is 19MIL/yr.

That's rich for a closer, even one of Hader's stature. I don't blame AA for not dropping that amount.

I'm fine with Oz being below everyone 1-5 on this list. The rest... debatable at best, awful take at worst.

MLBN should be ashamed of themselves.

That's two years IAR that Ozzie has been left off of this list. I know these lists aren't the end-all-be-all but it's like the nerds who have compliled this list the last two years have never seen Ozzie play.

Mookie and Altuve I have no problem with. He should be no lower than 3rd.

That list is an abortion.
