I wouldn’t say I suck his hotdog arse off, but he is my favorite player. He’s as talented as any player we’ve ever had, and I hope he never puts on a different uniform.

Right on cue.

Thanks for proving my point about this fanbase's warped sense of reality.

it is weird as hell that Riley doesn’t get booed.

People long ago accepted that Riley wasn't good. They have zero expectation of him performing on the big stage. People booed Acuna because he's a tiring personality when combined with non-performance AND because deep down we were all hoping for the storybook "Acuna game."

As usual, it's about expectations vs. reality rather than raw reality.

Maybe not now. And I haven't seen the interview from yesterday. But there's definitely a greater chance than 0 of the boos affecting his view of this team/city, etc.
I have no problems with his bling or his celebrations. But he clearly gets his feelings hurt. And maybe that doesn't translate into anything. Or maybe it does.

This is all contrived bullshite.

Riley is the highest paid player on the team. He is a much bigger hindrance to the Braves' success than Acuna is.

I'm telling you right now, there is no scenario where Acuna will ever "go through the motions" playing baseball.

He loves the sport too much.

I feel like the reasons Acuna gets hate and Riley doesn’t are fairly obvious, and I’m not referring to the color of their skin. Austin is an old-school, bring your lunch pail type of ball player, and Ronald is the complete opposite. I can appreciate both. Many don’t.

I’d love for you to elaborate on this. Dude exudes pure joy most of the time. He just hasn’t been able to stay healthy.

Sure, it's contrived bullshite if you don't understand Braves fans or have any understanding about how the emotions of human beings work

The reaction to Riley's HR was shocked exuberance.

More contrived bullshite.

The highest paid player brings the highest expectations.

That's been the case across every sport since they became a multibillion dollar industry

Ron got booed bc he acts like he is a superstar.

Riley is just a giant nothing, the entire fanbase has accepted he is terrible.

Fans are tougher on superstars. They aren't as tough on the players that literally give you no personality.

Responding to both your posts together.

- I'm sure Riley is less likely to be boo'd generally because he's boring. He doesn't draw attention in either direction.

- I do very sincerely believe most Braves fans have internalized that Riley isn't worth the money and isn't reliable and thus there is very little emotional response when he meets that low expectation.

- I'm not sure Acuna isn't appreciated for his personality. But it's a big, emotional one, and is it surprising that the reaction is an emotional one?

- Acuna strikes a lot of people as very emotional, and I think that rightly or wrongly will often lead to claims of immaturity. Having all the trappings/attitude of a star who is not putting in star/clutch performances is going to annoy people. I think that's close to universal. Add it it the bouts where he looks to fans like he's completely disinterested, and you have a showman of a star player who is useless when you need him and during part of that stretch seems (fair or not) like he doesn't care. I just don't think this is any real mystery and this recipe would end up the same with pretty much any player on any team.

So when Riley was batting last night you expected him to come through more so than Acuna, yes?

Hell, same for HSK by this metric?

I don't really see Riley as that at all personally. I'm friends with someone who knows him and he isn't even bothered when they get bounced in the playoffs, he is mostly just happy he gets to go hunt.

I was never really shocked at Riley's decline because of that. For him (and I'm sure a lot of guys in the league) they get to a point where its very much just their job. He got paid and got complacent IMO.

Ronald's issue for one is that because he is so passionate he is prone to getting into his own head. And secondly I think his injuries have taken a toll on his body and he might not know how to consistently make this new version of his body do the things it used to be able to do.

I haven't had any expectation for any Braves hitter outside of Mike for the last month and a half.

But coming into this season, yes, I expected Riley to not be one of the worst players in the league.

As for Kim, it was always a bad contract even if it was only a year. There's a reason he was DFA'd by the Rays last year and it's not like he hit all that great outside of a couple of week with us when we picked him up midseason.

It was a panic move by AA to bring him back because we had no SS.

He is owed way too much money and there are way too many years left on that deal for this to even be considered.

very disappointing. his arse needs to go also. definitely $$ we need/could use now to get someone to take his place. or use elsewhere. AA created this mess, let's see what he does to get out of it.
