get to a point where its very much just their job. He got paid and got complacent IMO.
Which is why it's a terrible idea to give any player a 10 year or more deal. Outside of the rare guy like Freddie that is making a HOF push most players don't age well I to their mid 30s anyway, and very few have the drive to do well then anyway.
Riley dropping off didn't surprise me at all (though how immediately it happened did a bit), it was a terrible extension at the time. And it was a total knee jerk response by AA to fans being upset with Freddie leaving.

Because he jogged to first on a groundout?
Are you a moron? Do you not remember Bobby yelling "Easy" every time a good player rolled over?

You’re making this about race. Not me.

And shouldn’t. Outside of a postseason where nearly the entire lineup stopped producing, the difference this season with him in lineup versus not was pretty stark.
What value does a guy have that misses half of every regular season and produces nothing in the playoffs?

He is owed way too much money and there are way too many years left on that deal for this to even be considered.
This. We are stuck with him for the foreseeable future.
Going to have to accept mediocre at best production from that position for the next couple of seasons. Who knows, maybe a miracle happens and a light bulb comes on and he returns to his 2023 version.

Trade Acuna. Trade Olson. The Braves will never win with either of them. They just aren’t clutch enough, or rise to moment. In fact, they shrink when the lights are brightest. It’s ok. Some guys have it. Some guys don’t. And those two obviously don’t

i'm seeing a trade acuna trend all over social media.
from online
"Acuña is under team control through 2028 via club options ($17 million for 2027 and 2028 with $10 million buyouts), meaning analysts like Ken Rosenthal, Jeff Francoeur, and Carlos Peña argue the Braves could maximize a massive prospect haul now rather than risk losing him to free agency or an awkward standoff."

Trading Olson is a stupid idea. He’s played 162 games every season he has been here and in 5 years has accumulated 25.2 WAR, this last season he put up 4.4 fWAR and will win a gold glove at first base.
His contract averages him being paid 21 million a year. Open market free agency teams generally pay roughly between 10-12 million per 1 WAR.
He vastly over performs his contract to an insane degree.
He is pretty dreadful in the playoffs during his career ( he is hitting .193 with 5 HR in 24 career playoff games) this is absolutely true but trading him is still a dumb idea to even consider

Why is it so dumb? We can clearly win the division. We can clearly do well in the regular season. We can’t get over the hump in the postseason. So why in the frick would we hang on to guys who choke in the postseason? Do you want to win the fricking World Series? Or do you want to watch Matt Olson hit 40 HRs when the score is 8-1 in mid May? Or hit a double when we are down 7-2 in the 9th inning? Yes he has great stats. But I watch the actual games. His HRs and doubles and all his slugging comes when there’s usually absolutely nothing to gain from it. You can’t win with guys like him
So trade him. Get back a ton of prospects for him and Acuna both. Surely they would get lucky with a couple of them. It’s not a full rebuild that is needed. But with those two as your leaders? You’ll never see Atlanta win anything other than the division and maybe a opening playoff series against a team that shouldn’t even be a playoff team like Philadelphia this year

You can’t blow it up until you make a GM change.
Blowing it up just to build a team the same way just exacerbates the problem.

Ah the AA approach to acquiring multiple lesser players and hoping they hit
I think you listen to any absurd offers for Acuna. Maybe you listen to absurd offers for anyone. But trading a known quantity in Olson for what will almost certainly be significantly inferior offense at 1B on the hopes that maybe they're more clutch in 3-4 postseason at bats Olson might fail at in the hypothetical future seems like a dicey path IMO.

Olson seems like a good guy and I'm not saying we need to get rid of him but I've never been a fan of players with long swings, especially in this age of hard throwers, maybe that's why he struggles in the postseason.

I agree. First change needs to be fire AA and get a new GM
Posted on 10/9/26 at 1:11 pm to Finkle is Einhorn
Man I’m with VA I would be on the phone with the reds ready to basically give up nearly whatever it took to get Elly.
Hypothetical would you do this trade?
We get Elly and Hunter Green and in return send them a package including Caminnetti, Lodise, Hartman, our compensatory draft pick from Baldwin winning rookie of the year, Elder, and a sizeable chunk of 2027s allotted international signing pool money
If possible maybe we could try to keep Hartman and put someone like Lee in instead.

I would not give up both Lodise and Cam.
Hartman is our most valuable trade chip because he has the power upside, but of our top 5 prospects, he's probably the most volatile in terms of whether he actually pans out or not.

I’d be fine with including Lodise in a trade for Elly since we wouldn’t need a SS of the future anymore.
Elly is under team control until 2030 so that’s why I think it would take an insane package like I described to have a shot at him.
Agree on Hartman. His total ceiling if it can be reached is an elite 5 tool player. Since we already have Harris in CF he could be the replacement eventually for Ozzie at 2B where he also has logged a lot of innings

I still think Hartman is 2-3 years away from being ready to hit MLB pitching.
It's why I think, if we're not blowing it up now, you shop him around to see what win-now player(s) you can get from a package centered around him.
