Based purely on length.. Modern era: Jamie Moyer..

Guy that I was surprised played so long.. Randy moss. Never thought he'd play 12 years.. 13 really but I tend to forget that year.. His personality led me to think he'd flame out after 6-7

Jamey Wright is in his 20th year pitching the majors. Done both as a back end starter and middle relief guy

I'm pretty sure he's pitched for like half the league too at this point

Also surprised how long JJ Redick has stuck around. Really improved his game over the years.

Agreed. He's put in a lot of hard work to get where he is. I read that he's averaging 20 ppg since the All Star break. Also just set the Clippers season record for 3 pointers (although it's still the Clippers )

I'm surprised Glenn Davis has lasted this long in the NBA especially how big he's gotten over the past few years.

Guy has a pretty good jump shot and is ridiculously agile for being a fat arse.

Darren Oliver

Bruce Chen

Don Strock was the Dolphins backup quarterback for like 27 years. He had the easiest job in NFL history.

Mark Guthrie played forever too.

I think this thread shows that if you are a left handed pitcher, can hit 85 on the gun, and can throw near the strike zone, you have a job for life. Yes, I know Byrd was a righty. He might have played 5 more years as a lefty.

A non-LSU case-in-point: Mike Stanton

Jamie Moyer
Pitched the Rockies to a win in 2012. He was almost 2 years older than Will Ferrell was when he "played" this spring.

Redick doesn't surprise me. he's got an in-demand skill (shooting), he's been taking care of himself pretty well since about midway thru his Duke career, and he actually seems to at least try on defense, so he's not necessarily taking anything off the table. the 20ppg is an eye opener though.

someone mentioned Nar Mohammed earlier. now there's a bit of a surprise. "in case of emergency" bigs can last a while, but I'd have thought that guy would've been done a few yrs ago. he must be a good locker room presence.

Craig Biggio playing 20 seasons with the Astros. He started out as a catcher. To think that if he played just 15 seasons , he is probably not elected into the Hall of Fame.

But 3060 hits over 20 seasons got him over the top.

Serviceable workhorse backup qbs can last forever in the NFL.

I would think, if your ego can handle it, it's an awesome gig.
