As West Monroe burns

One regular season football game and West Monroe already looking for a new head football coach. Looks like Garvin sent another kid to the hospital last week. Put on leave. Bad look for West Monroe now. Will be interesting to see how this plays out for the football program. Hope the kid who got sent to the hospital is ok though.

Not fired, suspended indefinitely. It is a bad look. Kevin Davis is interim HC.

Always thought it was an odd hire to begin with for WM

Oh. Looks like heat stroke.

I understand he has his hands full trying to change the culture of WM ( Daddy Ball, Politics, whatever ) that has permeated over the last few years or so and get the most out of the players, but the Covid kid should not have returned so quick. Covid effects everyone in different ways. Stay out until you know how it's going to effect you personally.
It's known that he had 3 seasons to get them back to WM levels - doing it his way. Having said that, this organization has gotten SOFT! Everytime he enacts small changes, people inside the organization bitch - publicly and privately. The fan base ( insiders )now want to win state without having to work for it.

Rumors on twitter say this is either the 4th occurrence or 4 sent yesterday. Kind of confusing wording.
If he wasnt following wet bulb protocols that the state adopted when these kids got heat sickness, he will never coach again.

This is what happens when Peej declares you the savior of WM football

4 kids sent to the hospital since fall practice started . Lawsuits are coming and this is going to be ugly.

My son's HS team had some play last week after having covid the prior week and they had lots of cramping issues last Friday night in the opener.

He's going to serve a 2 game suspension and it'll blow over. And in about 2 years, they'll be back in the Dome.

Nothing against Arledge, but it was such a lazy hire. Mentality of most WM was, well, he's been the second in command, so let's just hire him.
Big difference in being the DC when you can hand pick the 35 best players/athletes and give the rest to the offense versus running the whole show.

I'm sure the fact that a 3A Sterlington team being a couple plays from beating them in their own house may have made this decision easier... It was OK after the first 3 kids, but the 4th was too much? WMHS cares about 1 thing, and that is football. That game was too close and embarrassing for them.

Is anyone going to give a backstory or explain what the hell y’all are talking about? All I’ve seen is Covid kid so far
Eta: Apologies, didn’t realize this is all just happening and news sources are vague. 4 sent to ER due to heat related problems

It’s hard to place all of the blame on Garvin. I was told a few kids on the team had covid(w/o coaches knowing)and either continued to show up or came back way before they were healthy. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the overheated cases fall into that group. They also have a full time trainer. I’m wondering if he’s speaking up when it gets too hot and if so, is Garvin ignoring him.
Apparently they have one kid in the hospital now that had real bad shin splints and ended up causing some type of infection. Now he’s set for surgery and the grandmother even mentioned the word amputation if it doesn’t heal. I don’t know if she’s correct in what she’s saying, but I do know she mentioned that as a possibility.
Each school was given something to monitor the heat. If it was over a certain temp they were required to adjust practice times. After the first few kids got too hot they started practicing at 6:00am if it was 100 or higher. They did that for at least 2 weeks.

Ok so, a kid went to hospital for heat related illnesses. There have been 4 kids at WM hospitalized due to heat is what the problem is.
Eta: I had to sift through FB comments to get to it being heat related. Apologies for my prior post, not much news out there

The reports are this happened to 3 kids previously (heat exhaustion leading to hospital). The one yesterday was apparently recovering from Covid.

Everyone is dealing with cramping because of this heat regardless of covid.
