And since this list is just poll results throughout the years, you can't really move teams up or down. It's not subjective. It is what it is and history telling you where your program stands in history based on a century of AP Polls.

Nice bait, bro. LSU is the 14th winningest program before 2000 tho (17th in terms of win percentage).

Looks like we've got a few programs that made the list based on ancient history.
Pretty sure that's what "Ever" means.

Would be interesting to see the formula and how #1 rankings were weighted, because LSU was #1 in the final poll twice versus three times for Tennessee. At least in this case, that #2 finish in 2003 might be the difference between Top 10 and #11 for LSU.
However, TEN was only NR 18 times since 1936, versus 22 times for LSU.
Top 5 finishes: TEN = 13, LSU = 10
Top 10 finishes: TEN = 24, LSU = 22

I count 3 for LSU all time

LSU would solidly be a top 25 program without the last two decades, but more than likely in the 15-20 range.

I'd put LSU above the Vols but no way ahead of Penn State....
LSU has four National Titles to Penn States 2, and three Heisman Trophies to 1. There’s also the fact that Penn State’s head coach and administrators covered up a pedophile rapist assistant coach because they thought it might damage their program.

You've got it backwards.
LSU: 1958, 2007, 2019
UTjr: 1951, 1998

As an Arkansas fan, this pisses me off. I badly wish we could hire a coach to make our program respectable again. Tits are a dealbreaker. We have the potential to be much better than what we’ve been since the motorcycle went in the ditch. We are not on the level of the top programs in the conference, but our football program should not be Kansas or Vanderbilt either.

Georgia should be ahead of LSU.

Ole Miss

don't belong.
Since Ole Miss integrated in 1972 they've been ranked in the final poll 11 times in 52 seasons. Over the same time period Miss State has finished ranked in the final polls 13 times. Ole Miss' football history is all built during segregation years ago. In modern times they are poop. Very misleading.

There’s a strong argument for the 1994 Penn State team to be considered a national champion level team. It went undefeated, won the Big Ten, and many think Nebraska was awarded the national championship that year as gift to Tom Osborne to acknowledge his career (outside of the AP and Coaches polls a number of services awarded it to PSU). That season is one of the big reasons you now have a football playoff.

They should claim it since they were voted #1 in a poll listed in the NCAA records book. Everything was still mythical then.

You do realize this applies to Miss St even more, right? Your one and only SEC title was in 1941. Your one and only major bowl win was in 1940.

I don’t put much stock in the first 30 or years of the AP Poll because an overwhelming majority of the voters were from the northeast and Midwest and they had a severe anti-South/Pro-North bias.

Yep, sure did. Must have lost track of which one I was looking at.
So 4 more appearances in the Top 25 overall must have given Tennessee the edge, but gotta figure LSU getting the #1 spot in the final poll in 2003 gives them the edge for #10.
Damn USC.

Probably a strong argument for that, and again begs the question of how the formula is weighted. UGA has as many #1 finishes as LSU, but has 28 Top 10 finishes. Of course, they've also been outside the Top 25 26 times.
So UGA is either great or crap...lmao!

And Miss State football history sucks. What does that have to do with Ole Miss sucking also? The last half century plus Ole Miss has sucked as bad as State. They are not a Top 25 all time program. Period.
