They had #1 prospect in baseball last season and hardly anyone showed up to watch him. Most didn’t even know he was there as they did nothing to really promote the team.

Yep. Same them play a couple of times in Jackson.

The summer before we were married (in 1991), my wife had to take a class for about a month at the Ole Miss med school in Jackson. I came up to visit her on a few weekends and one of the few things we did was go to a couple of Jackson Generals games. One game was beach towel night; those towels were thin as paper, and half of the towel was an ad for some auto parts store or something, the other half was the Jackson Generals logo.

Game program from that year showing logo and ballcap, and a pennant example:

I seem to recall a time when both the Generals and the New Orleans Zephyrs were part of the Astros organization. I definitely remember seeing guys like Lance Berkman and Daryle Ward with the Zephyrs before going to the majors. I know that a couple of Generals players got championship rings from the prior season one Opening Day at Zephyr Field.

I moved out of Jackson in 95 and then everyone started the migration out to Madison seemingly in 96 or so IIRC. Had a great time growing up in Jackson. Sad what's become of it, what a shithole it is now a days. Jitney Jungle FTW

You wouldn’t believe how crowded Madison is now.

They should have put the MS Braves stadium downtown instead of in Flowood.

Owned literally or figuratively? I read it as the latter; never heard of any common ownership between the teams.

Literally.

Shreveport was Texas League, Jackson was Southern League.

Jackson Generals were in Tennessee. Formerly known as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Both were in the Southern League.

They used to play the Shreveport Captains when I was growing up in Port City. Those were the days!

Google says Maloney bought the Mets in 1982.

Always great when Shreveport was in town. The third base side fans would chant, “Shreveport, Shreveport you are it. SH for Shreveport, IT for it.”
Beer was allowed on the third base side, but first base stands were for family. No beer.

I used to play tennis around there at lots of tournaments. We'd stay at the Homewood Suites and eat Barbeque, Steak and Ale, and Japanese Hibachi. Later in my 20s I'd go to that Cajun restaurant and Char when i traveled there for work

I remember going to Jackson Mets games from 1982 through the years of the Jackson Generals in the 90's. Con Maloney owned both while they were in Jackson. Both were in the Texas League. I can still smell the Coors. The fans would wear out the umps when one made a bad call.

Wrong Jackson Generals, chief. We're talking about the team in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1990s, not the one in Jackson, Tennessee that was done away with when MLB took over MiLB a few years ago....
