I was a Supersonics fan as a kid. Loved Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, and Detlef Schrempf. New Orleans got a team on 2002 so I started to root for them equally and when the Sonics left in 2008 I was just a New Orleans fan. Still with them throughout all the trash.

I seriously hate being a Cowboys fan. Been a fan since I was 8 when they were winning Super Bowls in the 90's and have stuck with them. I'm not a "We dem boys" fan and don't get my hopes up. Don't plan on switching but I would if Jerry hires Deion. I don't dislike Deion like most, but it would just show me that Jerry is actually not serious about winning.

My allegiance to teams was fixed by birthplace.
For better or worse, I am a fan of only LSU and the Saints.

I grew-up a Braves fan in the early 90’s. Growing up in Florida, they were the closest team geographically (I despise any & all Miami teams), and they were on TBS every week. I remember laying on the ground, counting my Halloween candy when marquis grissom caught the final out in CF against the Indians.

Once the Devil Rays came to town, things slowly changed. It’s weird to think about, or to type out. I hated the AL, still love & root for the Braves, but somewhere along the way the Rays are my #1 now. The fact that they’ve never won the WS, and the Braves have a couple times now, reinforces the theory that I’d root for the Rays vs. the Braves in a hypothetical WS match-up.
I still like the Braves, and I’d pull for them against any other team. But it’s weird to say that I did in fact “switch” favorite teams at some point growing up.

I grew up and grew out of caring about professional sports teams.

Since we didn’t have major league sports while growing up in Seattle, I became a SF Giants fan because of the great Willie Mays. I had a strong dislike of the Oakland A’s; that is until I moved to Oakland. Players like Rickey Henderson, McGwire, Canseco, Dave Henderson, Eckersley, Dave Parker, Dave Stewart, Harold Baines. What a lineup.

I was really upset when they lost the World Series to Cincy and their their disgusting owner Marge Scott.

Yeah, when I was just a youngster. Saints were the only pro team in town and they sucked in the 90's. Everyone my age seemed like they had either a 49ers, Cowboys, or Packers starter jacket at the time....49ers for me.

Shaq was my favorite player, so I was a Magic fan first then started pulling for the Lakers until he left LA.

Had less loyalty in baseball. Started out as a big Mariners fan because of Griffey but after he left for the Reds, I never really had loyalty to any particular MLB team. Just a constant dislike of the Yankees.

A St Louis Browns fan? Dang, that's hardcore. Maybe the worst franchise in MLB history.

I think there are a few acceptable reasons to switch allegiances.

1. You moved and adopt the new hometown team. This is fine if your weren’t that into your old hometown team.

2. Your child now plays for said team.

3. Your City gets a franchise. I went from a bulls fan to a Hornets/Pelicans fan. basically jumped from a sinking shite into another singing ship with less trophies on it.

4. you go to a sports university. I don’t care if you’re a life long Kentucky basketball fan from Kentucky. If you choose to go to Duke, you’re a Duke fan now. This doesn’t apply if you go to like Harvard. You should still cheer in Harvard but you can still cheer for LSU.

5. Your team gets caught committing heinous acts/signs a player who has done heinous act. Thinking about a Penn State situation. If you aren’t an Alumni that is.

I grew up a Redskins fan as in the early to mid 80's the Saints games were blacked out most of the time and the Skins were always on TV. Riggins, "The Posse" and Darrell Green are still my favorite players of all time. As I got older became a Saints fan as it's what I was surrounded by (family and friends) but the Skins are still in the blood.

I would consider myself more of a bengals fan now then the saints.

Basketball i tend to follow players more then a certain team. Lebron, luka, ja morant, etc.

I was also a lifelong Braves fan. Between them and Tulane my mental stability couldn't handle the disappointment. I gave up on the Braves and stuck with Tulane.

I'm quite certain that people move cities all the time and then pick up a new team to root for.

It would be pretty miserable to move to somewhere like Philly for example and just never at least adopt your Philly teams as second favorites or something. Discourse locally in sports towns like Philly is so focused on their teams that you kind of miss out a bit, they are fun events to go to, you can be far more involved with those teams vs just sitting in front of a TV and watching them. I do get it if you're a huge Braves fan and you move there and just can't do it.... but you still have 3 other teams.

I cannot do it for college but without trying growing up a saints fan but now living in Jacksonvillle I like both teams. They rarely play. They are in different conferences etc I didn’t think I would ever be that way and it was not forced it occurred naturally.

I generally root for my hometown teams but at one point many years ago I attempted to start rooting for the Ravens instead of the Cowboys.

That was during the Romo years.

But I figure I'll stick with the teams I've rooted for since childhood, for better or worse.
