What does protesting the game actually do for the Jays?
If by some miracle they rule the Jays correct they will revert the game back to the point where there is a man on third, likely come back and do it tomorrow.
Unless of course the Jays come back and win and then it's a moot point.

What would have happened if there was a throw home after the ump waived off the play?
Odor would have been in the dugout when martin caught the ball

If Odor would have stopped running due to the timeout call, he would have been sent back to 3B.

Has anyone ever seen this type of scenario in a baseball game before?
The only thing similar I have witnessed, I was the hitter. Our runner on 2nd took off for third. I took the pitch and looked at the ground to avoid taking one in the face. The catcher hit my bat and the ball went out of play. The run was awarded for throwing the ball out of play.

I do understand but
He calls time which kills the play it's not a balk situation.

And then the umpires can say he would have scored regardless and award the run. So you really don't understand.
