I'd say a ball off plate is totally within realm of reality of calling a strike zone. But, i say its good if players know exactly what a constant zone is and need to behave accordingly in game.
It's definitely generally accepted, especially in youth and HS, otherwise the walks would make the game unbearable. But if they're going to hard code this stuff into umpire software, it might be time to make the plate wider or rewrite the rule book to align with what's actually being called.

the only down side is it takes away from the hitter and umpire banter that is not supposed to happen. that's what makes baseball fun is a little frick you to the umpire here and there.

It’s just 2 cameras on each dugout. Not even behind the plate. Supposedly it calls foul and fair also. I think each camera is set up down each foul line. I heard mixed reviews on it also. Doesn’t call the low curveballs very well.
I didn’t see it in person this weekend but talked to some 2D reps about it.
Trackman can do the same thing but obviously very expensive.

Same reason HS can’t put coach to player on the pitcher.
What the hell does this mean.

The only reason to have this for youth baseball is to take heat off the 15 year old home plate umpire getting yelled at by the drunk parent for costing his kid a retarded looking oversized Jostens ring.
Insert shut up and take my money Futurama fry meme

Rough age to try it on. The standard deviation at 12-14 is higher than like 10-12 I would think. Pretty cool. We gonna slide cash into a slot to pay at the plate?

Many posters will be pissed and whine about it but it is going to happen
File me under that group. Sports isn’t about perfection, rather the pursuit of it. Part of the history of the game is Denkinger’s blown call at first, Angel Hernandez sucking, things like that. AI sterilizes most everything. Yes, it will correctly call balls and strikes. I suppose it might standardize scores and have less controversy on the field, but it will water down the product as a whole. You are essentially eliminating characters like Lou Piniella, Earl Weaver, even Bruce Bochy and Tito.
When I go to a game, I want to be entertained. Shouting at an MLB or MiLB umpire is part of the fun. Sports isn’t art, and art is filled with imperfections.
No reason to stop at calls at the plate. Just have mounted cameras make calls in the field. You don’t need coaches really. Have kids subscribe to various hitting lesson channels, and have AI utilize live stats to make out lineups and dictate pitching changes (which it already does). You don’t even need a body in the dugout.
The last step…someone using technology to play the game itself. Battle Bots was ahead of its time.

3 varsity games on a Saturday is between $260 and $270.
13 travel ball games for a 13 or 14 age group over a weekend pays $780 cash

You must have never experienced the pleasure of having a 2D umpire. Give me the bot any day.

Add another $2,000 a year for Jaxon’s travel ball dues to pay for the system.

I would kinda like to sit back and watch some of these coaches bitch about what is a ball and what is a strike. At the top level, they know. In youth ball, this setup can lead to tons of walks, or coaches actually having to get pissed at Jaxx because he won’t swing the bat.

We have failed as a society when we can’t have underpaid umpires to yell at and get Braxton’s parents tossed from the ballpark

I actually agree with you on all that.
