Nolan Ryan would stack up well in the modern era. He had an insanely strong arm, crazy good stamina, as well as an intimidation factor you just don't see too often these days.

If he grew up playing like this current generation he wouldn't have the stamina he had. These travel ball experts think a kid's arm is going to explode if he throws more than 40 pitches every 6 days.

With proper coaching, yeah. His control would have made him much less effective if you just picked him up and dropped him into modern baseball. Guys also velocity much more frequently.

I'd love to see him in a Mason Miller role where it's just max effort for 3-4 batters a night. Would likely need to develop secondary stuff a little better and add movement to the FB. I'm sure he could do it though.

I also wonder how much they'd let these guys go today. Skenes showed in college he can go 120+ and still throw over 100. In the big leagues, he's pulled after like 85 pitches. The assets are just worth so much more money now.

The thing that sticks out the most to me is the 6 pitch at bat that took 3 minutes

122 pitches?

Did nobody care about his health?

What was so funny about this is that he did it a few hours after Rickey Henderson broke the all-time stolen base record and pretty much everybody in baseball seized the opportunity to ignore Ricky and focus on Nolan.

No shite. He only had over 300 wins and 5,000 strikeouts with a flat fastball

So true. He would have never been allowed to be "Nolan Ryan". He never had TJ surgery even though it was suggested to him at age 39 when he tore his UCL. He opted to let it heal naturally and pitched 7 more seasons.

Man this is a bad take. His curveball was a fricking hammer. Guys like George Brett and Pete Rose said it was impossible to hit. That video that was posted shows him embarrassing a ton of HOF hitters with it. Plus he learned how to set it up with his FB and hide it.

His circle change wasn't anything to sneeze at either. You don't get over 5700 k's throwing just straight gas.
