This is about as good as backup quarterback signings get. Cousins is a grizzled veteran with a ton of familiarity in the Shanahan/McVay offensive tree, from which Klint Kubiak's offense spawns. Yes, there will be some sticker shock, but the Raiders are only on the hook to pay Cousins $11.3 million, as the Falcons are picking up the remaining $8.7 million via contract offsets.

Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M.
The Falcons will pay Cousins $8.7 million this season, the Raiders another $1.3 million and Las Vegas also agreed to pay its new QB a fully-guaranteed $10 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2027 new league year.
And maybe most notably, it also sets another new mark: this will be the 11th straight NFL season in which Cousins’ contract will be fully guaranteed.

Cousins with this contract (year one) passes Tom Brady in career earnings.

I did a deep dive on this yesterday to see which WRs have gone in the first round with as little production as he had their final seasons and this was the list since 2000..and it’s ugly: Ted Ginn Jr Jonathan Baldwin Darius Heyward Bey (what a terrible draft pick ) Jalen Reagor AJ Green (was also bigger, faster, stronger than Tate and going up against elite CBs) That’s it. That’s the list of WRs with less than Tate’s 875 yards And they’re talking about this dude going top 10. Insanity.
