this is not really true and some myth that continue to exist. all you have to do is go look at the select fest going back the first year which was Dylan Crews 14u year and look and see how many of those went big time D1.

usually the best 12u kid is the best 16u kid in the state. not always but usually or they atleast remain towards the top.

I do agree that the top 25 kids on a national level will tend to continue to be near the top, especially when you add the Caribbean nation kids. I was more talking about locally, and for the purposes of LHSAA baseball. In watching the players my kids grew up playing with/against, it's been really hard to predict. Some of the best kids had hit puberty early and did showcases year round got passed up later. And some of the ones who were fundamentally sound but still had the high-pitched voice ended up developing late and becoming monsters.

But as far as looking at LHSAA programs and trying to project the strength of future classes, I think depth is the most important aspect. I'd be more excited about a deep class of kids who have played competitive youth baseball than having 1-2 hot shots who've been told how great they are but may be done growing. If that makes sense..

100% agree and that is what i was doing. Most classes for the big schools will have 1 maybe 2 that are really good. its class depth that make certain classes really good imo and that is how i looked it when i was discussing them.

Just never came across somebody who knows THAT much about virtually every player in the state/region/nation. No disrespect intended, just seems a bit much.

quote:

do you know why? its because he was constantly in trouble at SLC and hated the coach. so he left and his brother followed. then his brother got mad at the coach at barbe over playing time....so he left and went back to SLC....notice an issue there? think maybe the family might be the issue?

Maybe just me, but is it really just "knowing who the best players on the other team are". When I was a kid I could quote almost every MLB players stats from reading the back of baseball cards. You are obviously gifted and passionate in that area. Radar gun speeds for every pitch of every kid, max exit velocities, their travel ball team history, impressive. It was just an observation, not personal. Multiple methods to calibrate your pocket radar, you HAVE to be an engineer! LOL That might explain your analytical nature. i am sure many on here appreciate your takes.

Yes, you have forgotten more travel baseball than I will ever know, and I can only imagine what it is like to have multiple athletic kids like that doing big things. Best of luck to you and your sons.

I agree that it's fun to track players as they grow up, but I find there are generally more surprises than sure bets.

The latest and greatest PBR Louisiana Top 10 contains 5 kids from the PBR rankings released in the fall of 2022, the start of their 9th grade year. One of which dropped seven spots, barely staying in the Top 10 at #10.

Barbe beat TC 4-2 but it was run more like a scrimmage with starters being pulled early. The lefty for TC is a dude. Nobody touched him. Crazy arm slot.

Alexander pitched for barbe and looked good then it 1 inning each for a bunch of kids

They played 10 innings. Pitchers dominated for the most part

barbe isnt really recruiting but yea sam is. 2 kids from jennings that still live in jennings. multiple kids from south lake charles going there over barbe because of some stupid class they have that allows them to go. Lacassines best player suddenly moved in. barbe has had people move in. Zaylon moved in starting 7th grade or maybe 6th. the Talon Sweat kid moved in from texas over the summer randomly, Im pretty sure his dad got trasnferred in as they were in a good school in texas. Littleton literally moved from sulphur to LC. Thats going to happen, people move for school districts all the time. What you dont see is usually is barbe taking kids from other high schools. The SLC kid mentioned...he lived in Barbes Zone for 10+ years and left SLC for other reasons and you dont transfer from playing middle infield to go be the right fielder at Barbe . But Barbe never really takes kids from other high schools. I think there was a live oak kid that moved last year or something but someone on here said something like the dad and coach got into it or something like that. You have a lot of kids that decide in 6th or 7th that they want to go to Barbe and they out of zone for middle school. and i dont even care about sam houston. Happy those kids arent wasting away not being developed and they get to play with the freinds they grew up playing with. Aint like sam houston is saying...hey come here and we have a 500k house waiting on you. All they are offering is a chance to compete. same with west monroe, barbe etc. Even the catholic schools....even if they give a scholarship, they are just evening the playing field. if people dont want kids to leave their schools, provide a better product. get the community to invest in facilities, get better coaches, pay for the education for the coach, pay for a complete weightroom and things like driveline programming. pay for hit trax and trackman to be installed. pay for indoor facilities etc i dunno, im just of the opinion of....how about we dont let the state and random strangers deciding what is best for each family.

Not at all… my son is in that class and we played them twice, lost by one each time.

And ever wondered why they didn’t play Perfect Game, or when they did they had to play up?? Bc they had 7-8 grade exceptions that were at least a year , sometimes almost 2, older than then the other teams. Means a lot at ages 12/13.

Also the douchiest parents of all time… I’m looking at you Cedric!

They don’t have to… just move to the feeder middle school in 8th grade if they want to play with their friends, etc.

Go look at Doyle… they have 6-7 guys who has done the same . You think all those guys live/from Livingston? Nope…. Got Holdens best2 players, 2 kids from Walker moved in middle school, 1 kid moved from Live Oak … was it all just for baseball? I’m a few cases yes, but not all of them. It sure did help the situation though

These people who say this are clueless… kids probably got cut from travel teams so they’re playing AA ball where it’s not even worth watching other teams….AA is glorify rec ball

What kind of velocity is he getting? Looked like great movement. Could see him being lights out against left-handed hitters in college.

Lived 88-89, touched 90 a couple times, also the slider was in that -12-15 range from fastball and very high spin, all were more than 2500 on the slider

Catholic scrimmaged Sam Houston, too. Any score on that one?

Brother Martin has scrimmaged 3 times. Beat ED White and Ponchatoula pretty bad, lost to Northshore tight.
