Looks like Ferrari have recruited the Italian version of the IRS to help them with the championship.
“All active F1 drivers and those who have recently competed, as well as current team staff, are reportedly under investigation by Italy's financial police.
Foreign athletes themselves are required to pay work taxes on income earned while competing in Italy. The tax authorities have contacted the drivers to submit their 2025 tax reports.
Then, the tax authorities also intend to conduct a thorough audit of the drivers' income. Then, to get an accurate picture of the drivers' income, they are reportedly seeking access to drivers' contracts as well as sponsorship contracts.
They are also targeting the settlement of unpaid taxes from several years back.
This tightening of rules is also unexpected, because previously drivers and team personnel were never asked to make tax payments, and the impact could be quite surprising.
If the unpaid taxes exceed €50,000, then the violation is considered a criminal offense, and there will be hefty fines imposed in addition to the obligation to pay the overdue taxes”

I think its funny... Skysports running interference for F1 and gaslighting the drivers, then getting roasted just like F1 has been all year.

Since we still have over a week to go let's project the 2028 drivers and their teams. This month break at the start of the season has been terrible. Miami GPX can't get her fast enough.
Of course I will start
Mercedes - Kimi & Piastri
Red Bull - Hadjar & Colapinto
McClaren - Norris & Verstappen
Ferrari - LeClerc & Bearman
Aston Martin - Stroll & Russell

I think Piastri will end up at Red Bull.
Esteban Ocon is probably done after this year. Colapinto needs to drive like he did at Williams if he wants to last much longer.
Bearman is on path to end up at Ferrari but they would take Antonelli in a heart beat if the chance arose.

I don't see that much mix up with the top teams.
You have Hamilton retiring?

Yes. I think this and all signs pointing to Max taking a year off in 2027 can will shake up a lot of teams.

I dunno... He said he loves the new racing (only one) and Ferrari certainly isn't going to kick him to the curb with the $$$ he is bringing in.
Max taking a sabbatical would def shake things up and lead to a number of short term moves until he returns and then the dominos really fall due to whomever seat he chooses to take.

Hamilton's ego won't let him retire without a farewell tour.

You think? I'm not Hamilton fan and think he's fake as frick, but he's no Lebron.
I think he truly cares about the sport more than himself.

He would certainly announce before the British GP if it is his choice.

Oh def, but don't think he's gonna go around every race making a big deal out of it or expect patches for his race suits, ala Lebron.

His contract ends at the end of 2027 and depending on how he does this season, we would see a few stops on a farewell tour.
I just don't see him racing in 2028 unless he has real success the rest of this season.
Max threw gas on the fire in September by saying he wouldn't rule out signing with Ferrari.
Its been a crazy year

Max's best move is Mercedes with Toto... Max would absolutely murder the Ferrari strategy team by the end of the second race.
However, with GP going to Mclaren, that is likely the favorite at this point.

Re: Hamilton
The team that pushed out Michael fricking Schumacher with 3 races left in the 2006 campaign? The Tifosi have never loved anyone more than Michael. Due respect to the Kimster, who was the impetus for the push.

I said it pre race season with the Apple move that Indy would gain a lot of F1 viewers who do not want to use Apple. Throw in the electric disaster and presto.
Long beach wasn’t even the most exciting race yet look at these numbers. As bad as Nascar is fumbling the ball Indycar might pass them in time. F1 is pretty much dead in US other than some loyal fans.

That’s a great number for Indy.
F1 is no where close to being dead in the US or anywhere else even with the new regulations. Podcasts numbers kill other motorsports even with them not racing right now.

Viewership for the Indy season is equal or slightly down from last year depending on the race.
Long Beach GP did show a large jump over last year but it is against the trend.

???
IndyCar ratings in 2026 have shown a strong start, with an average of 1.228 million viewers so far, which is over 30% higher than 2025

St Pete and Alabama were the same to lower. . Long Beach and Phoenix were higher. Arlington didn't exist last year but also did decent.
So there have been 5 races compared to 3 races last year at the same point. 2 of last years races that are being counted performed equal to worse this year. One doesn't exist.
Also Indy/Fox has done a lot better with the schedule this year removing themselves from conflict with NASCAR or even The Master's.
