Who knows what the cars will be like next year. At least that will be a reset and he probably won’t get yanked after 2 races.

It may depend on how much Newey DNA is in it? I'm guessing that they finally fix the issue that has been around since at least Gasly in 2019, but yeah, no one knows until it hits the track. Good luck Hadjar!

I'm a little surprised that Yuki will be in the reserve role, but he was given no time to find another situation. Albon took this path and Red Bull helped him get a seat at Williams, so maybe they will help Yuki get another seat for 2027.

Might as well be a new team besides Max at this point it seems.

Let's be honest, has Yuki shown that he deserves anything other than a reserve role? I honestly can't think of a single race where I have ever thought, in Yuki's entire career, where I said, "You know, Yuki really drove a hell of a race and shouldn't have finished that high."

I think I'd take every driver on the grid except for Stroll and maybe Colapinto over him. And possibly feel different if I ever saw Colapinto in a decent car. I mean he has 33(!!!!!) points in a Red Bull.

Point is, I think Yuki sucks

I meant I was surprised he was in a reserve role at Red Bull and not completely let go.

As for whether Yuki has ever impressed in a race, here are a few off the top of my head:

1. 2025 Australia. Yuki qualified P5 in the VCARB, and IIRC he was running P5 late in the race but when everyone else pitted, VCARB left him out and ruined his race, dropping him out of the points. Yuki drove a hell of a race on a wet track but was let down by his team.

2. 2024 Brazil. Yuki qualified P3 and finished P7 in the VCARB, and IIRC he would have finished P5 if not for Alpine's pit gambit that got them on the podium. Yuki drove a hell of a race on a wet track.

3. 2023 Netherlands. Yuki qualified P14 in the VCARB but was in a legit P6 position leading up the 2nd pit stop. IIRC he was just in front of Hamilton. But when everyone around pitted, VCARB left him out and ruined his race, dropping him out of the points. Hamilton finished P6. Yuki would have finished somewhere around P6-P8 if the team didn't let him down. Yuki drove a hell of race.

Feel free to watch the replay of these races and tell me if you agree or not.

I forgot about Australia this year, that was a solid performance. Memory isn't good enough to remember the other two but I certainly believe you that he impressed in those.

That's still not too many occasions given how long he's been driving. I would think Lawson and Hadjar have both done more in similar situations.

How many drivers would you take Yuki over? Not trying to argue fwiw, just keeping the conversation going.

I'm glad to give my opinion.

So here are my tiers. I'm sure many will disagree with the middle layers, but here we go:

Tier 1: Max
Tier 2: George, Lando, Oscar, Charles, Carlos
Tier 3: Alonso (a bit past his peak)
Tier 4a: Antonelli, Bearman, Hadjar (fast rising rookies)
Tier 4b: Gasly, Albon, Yuki, Hulk, Ocon
Tier 5: Lewis (washed), Lawson (but still getting better), Bortoleto (still getting better)
Tier 6: Stroll, Colapinto

IMO, if Yuki had raced the VCARB this year, he would have scored slightly less than Hadjar, so maybe mid 40s.

Among the four Red Bull drivers, I have no problem with ranking them Max, Hadjar, Lawson, Yuki. I still think Yuki is better than Lawson, but with 5 seasons vs 1.5 seasons, Lawson gets the edge. The problem I have is that I don't think Lindblad is ready to be promoted. The Red Bull family would have benefited more from Yuki's experience with the new cars next year than having Lindblad helping them develop a brand new car while trying to figure out Formula 1.

Not sure I agree with your rankings but

Hell, I think he would have beaten Hadjar pretty handily if he had stayed in the VCARB.

Still think Max could/should have did an FP1 in a VCARB.

Everyone has their own opinion, but to put Lewis that low is insane. Yes, he's on the backside of his career but no way the drivers in Tier 5 are better than him. Alonso and him are prob on equal footing at this part.

I wish Yuki would have stayed in the RB this season just to see the Hadjar-Yuki head to head. Think it would have been one of the better inter team battles to watch. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hadjar ends up being the best of this rookie class.

If Max wins the title this week, it will be the first time since Vettel in 2010 where the championship driver never led the standings until after the last race.

Hmm. Here goes...

Tier 1: Max
Tier 2: Oscar, Lando, Lewis, Carlos
Tier 3: George, Charles, Antonelli, Albon
Tier 4: Alonso, Hulkenberg, Bearman, Hadjar, Gasly, Lawson, Bortoleto, Ocon
Tier 5: Yuki, Colapinto, Stroll

Would like to see what Bortoleto and Bearman could do in a faster car and Colapinto is in the bottom by default just because he's never not had a slow car in his short career.

FWIW, Peter Windsor (who I keep quoting because I watch his stuff) places Sharl almost as high as Max as far as pure driving talent goes. He also says Lewis can be as good as those 2 also.

Oh we just AirBnB in town and drove in every day. Traffic wasn’t too bad, parked right off site but nearby.
Pushed a stroller with our 3 YO in it the last time.
