That Felipe Massa vs FIA trial is happening this week for their oversight of the 2008 crashgate situation and him losing the championship because of it.
Crazy that this lawsuit is a thing 17 years later but I think he would have had a leg to stand on if it was taken up at the time.
Y’all following this any?

I finally got to watch the Narco Gran Prix. Max got robbed of 2nd so badly by that virtual safety car.

I think so, too. It's weird, because I acknowledge crashgate happened and Massa has a valid argument, but it also comes across as sour grapes because so much time has passed. I know Bernie said the quiet part out loud a few years back about it, so maybe that gave Massa his ammo? I've also never cared for Massa, so I admit I have bias.

I didn’t personally have a problem with it. Max was driving like a championship was on the line because it potentially was. I’d rather watch a driver leave it all out there than complain about dirty air for the whole race. The 10 second penalty on Lewis was prolly a little severe.

I don't want it to come off as arguing. I just like the back and forth and talking with other people. Other opinions or viewpoints are great.
Not too many years ago we didn't have this kind of back and forth.

agreed, we are just having a nice discussion
Max made his move and got along side Charles and the drag race to the corner started, and Hamilton is still tucked in behind Norris
This not being Charles first rodeo with Max, says yea frick off I'm not a McLaren, i have nothing to lose, I'm going to yeet you to the edge of the track and deal with Hamilton later and we are now 4 wide and its a party.
As Max approaches the corner, he actuall starts to try to turn the car and squeeze Lecler, but he's riding a curb at this point and his areo is now fricked and he locked it up trying to slow down
At this point, Max finally lets off the brakes because he knows he won't make the corner with his brakes locked up
In summation, I think being on the outside from the start in Mexico, I think Max always knew that bailing was an option, but was genuinely going to try to pass around the outside until Leclerc squeezed them and they went four wide. Also look where Leclerc ended up, he didn't make the corner either. There was also nowhere for Max to tuck back in because the terrorist George was right behind him.

Didn’t see this one coming. Looks like Liam Lawson is gonna get in trouble for the marshals on the track during the race.

I just watched some fan videos of the incident. There are two separate issues here. One, who is to blame for the situation happening in the first place (FIA rules or local officials at the track), and Two, Lawson's actions (was he going the appropriate speed, and did he take any action to reduce the danger of the situation once he detected it).
My understanding of the situation is that the marshalls waited for the cars to go past to go out and pick up debris. But Lawson had gone into the pits, therefore, they would be unable to predict when he would be coming by. There may have been a failure of communication about a car that wasn't with the main group. So the marshalls should not have been sent out there unless all of the cars were together (safety car on track). I don't think even a VSC would have been appropriate to send them out there.
Then there is the actions of the marshalls themselves. They saw Lawson coming, and they were vulnerable because they were on the outside of the turn gathering debris, but they misjudged his speed while trying to return to the other side, and almost got run over. I think they deserve some criticism crossing the track, even if they were vulnerable where they were. An F1 car crawling along might still be going 60 mph, it's hard to judge how fast they are closing in on you.
Now the criticism from the Mexicans is that Lawson didn't take action himself to mitigate the risk of collision once he saw them, and I agree with them. His F1-trained brain works very fast and knew he wasn't on a trajectory to hit the second guy. But he still should have done everything he could to absolutely minimize the risk of collision and hit the brakes. It looks like he didn't react at all.
But he's obviously the absolute least to blame for the dangerous situation. I'm just saying the Mexicans are right about Lawson's actions, but they still pale in comparison to why the situation happened in the first place.

He was probably in shock as much as anything. How hard is it to tell the teams we are sending guys out on turn X to pick up debris

I agree that Lawson could have slowed down a little more or swung extra wide around that corner to give them all the space he could. They are wired to make split second reactions and he prolly could have done more.
To me tho this seems almost retaliatory by the officials/host. The video came out and made them look bad and now they are trying to deflect blame.

Did they penalize Gasly for the tractor on the track awhile back?

I dont even know how the Mexican GP arrived at that being a viable option to blame him. Such a slimy move.
