Sigh...I have been a fan of this sport for 50 years. The only constant is that F1 is incapable of handling success. The sport gets popular, F1 gets arrogant, the bottom falls out, and they spend a decade clawing back. Rinse and repeat. It's as though they get career advice from Fernando Alonso. Anyhow, I almost liked it better when races were on NBC Sports Network and no one in the US cared. Unfortunately, as soon as people start watching in numbers, dumb decisions are coming. Here we go...again.

Besides the commercials and offset times this was fine. Although the really early mornings usually have me watching offset anyway.

The only way I'm getting AppleTV is if Apple somehow buys Multiviewer and makes it part of the F1 deal. I have become spoiled with Multiviewer and loathe to go back to regular broadcast.

Multiviewer is the only reason I pay for F1TV. The rudimentary capabilities of F1TV's own interface is not worth it for me.

Multiviewer is the only way for me to watch F1. While the main broadcast channels focus on the frequently boring front, my eyes are glued on the live timing and the cockpit cameras of the cars fighting in the midfield. I don't think I could go back to just watching what they force me to watch. For example, Sainz complained that the broadcast didn't show a single one of his passes after he got on softs and worked his way up to P10. I was in his cockpit long enough to see at least one of his passes.

This is a pretty niche viewing experience though and the vast majority of F1 viewers just watch the main broadcast. So I feel like Apple is likely to ignore Multiviewer users and block Multiviewer's access to the feeds and data. I forecast doom and gloom. I hope I'm wrong.

F1TV Premium is $130/yr, and it looks like Apple TV+ is $100/yr. Since I don't currently subscribe to Apple TV+, ideally Apple TV's F1 add-on would be just $30 and embrace Multiviewer. That would be great, but seems pretty unlikely to be that cheap.

Y’all got me thinking about Bob Varsha, David Hobbs, and Steve Matchett with all this talk about switching broadcasters.

Don’t see nearly as much Klag these days.

Some exec probably has the view that Netflix, a pay service, is what caused the current boom, that viewers will follow.

I mean sure, if they put it on Netflix which has a significantly higher subscriber base.

Yep, finally getting around to watching the Brawn GP documentary. I only started watching a couple years before 2009 but it was probably one of the first seasons I paid attention as much as I did.
Only on episode 2 but this is a great documentary.

Brawn documentary was very well done.

Keanu is working on a new documentary of the behind the scenes of Cadillac F1 leading up to their first race.

Nope, not for us this year either. It’s a cool race though. Makes for a nice weekend with the concerts and sprint race format gives you something that matters each day.

Planning on it, it'll be my first time. Any tips from those that have been before? I've heard traffic is crazy getting in and out.

Craziest thing I saw leaving one night was this Yukon or Escalade catching air over one of the little bridges on the road leaving out of there. He landed and got real squirrelly for a second.

They do contraflow type stuff in and out and it’s not that bad.

Yeah, we’ve always parked around Lot R and by the time you walk all the way out there traffic isn’t so bad.

Be prepared to Walk a lot.

Oh but it is, much worse.

My advise it to linger if you have no where to be. If you’re going Friday or Saturday stick around for the concerts. If you’re going for the race Sunday stick around the track after for a couple hours, when we went there was so post-race shows and Shaq played a DJ set, I regret not just hanging out. We left right after and it took us 3 hours just to get out of the lot we were in.

I don’t know how big the facility is but the last few years they have had just over 430,000 people come thru over the 4 day weekend. 120,000-150,000 for the race on Sunday. That’s a lot of people. Can’t be any worse than last year tho, Georgia played at Texas the same weekend.

Its a huge place, like someone mentioned be prepared to walk a ton. It was 2021 when we went, a big part of the crowd disperses Friday & Saturday while some stay for the concerts, so getting out after the concerts wasn't that big of a deal. Sunday trying to leave right after the race was a mistake though, I wish we'd have just hung around the track for a while after.

Also, after 2021 was when prices REALLY got carried away. The same hotel we booked right off 6th Street in 2021 for $190/night was $595/night in 2022 and has hovered in the $600/night range ever since for the race weekend. Our tickets in the turn 12 grandstands were $440/each for the whole weekend, now hover around the $1000 mark. I'd love to one day attend again but unless these prices get a bit more in check I'd be looking to attend an international race and spend the money there.

Walking a ton is a given. Waiting in traffic can be hit and miss. Have waited for more than 2 hours trying to get out the lot and waited less than 30 minutes. Only thing we havent tried was Uber. The cheap shuttle is at least a half mile walk to the gate. A lap for walking is 3-4 miles.

Plan to be getting to the track a few hours early or you will miss the beginning of the main event. Have waited for nearly an hour getting through the main gate and less than 15 minutes depending on when you walk up.

Good news is the track itself is a huge event. Lots of things to see and do outside of the race itself so you won't get bored.

If you want to do the track walk and climb turn 1 you can't screw around. They start getting people off the track quick these days. And if you are on the wrong side of the start/finish line they send you turn 1 or to turn 19/20 and you have to walk around on the outside

If you have a AMEX card look for their booth and get some free headphones. Show them your card and they give you a set. Helps when watching the race to know if something is playing out.

Go to the downtown F1 store unless you are dead set on buying something at the track. Prices are still high in downtown, but pale in comparison. Talking $110 for a hat, $150 for a tshirt.
