Oof. That’s a bit rough for sure.
Aren’t Mercs supposed to be bad in the heat?
I know they did well in Singapore but that’s at night.

Seems they have had problems with tires in higher heat. Would make sense the night race doesn't heat the track as much for tire issues to show.

OK guys, get those prediction lists updated. The lists will be locked tonight.
Like I mentioned last time, fewer people are updating their lists. It could be waning interest since the football season started, but also maybe some people are feeling that it's a crapshoot anyway with how unpredictable it is, and realize that revising their existing list may not help at all.
Here's last year's Austin qualy:

And here's last year's Austin race results:
formula1.com/en/results/2024/races/1247/united-states/race-result
Last year it was a Ferrari sweep!
I'll be honest, I don't remember that. I am going to check out last year's replay.

Stewarding Fiasco Made for Bitter End to Exciting F1 US GP
Sorry, Ferrari—Lando Norris' five-second penalty was COTA's biggest talking point.
Think Leclerc did some ballsy move going into T1 and then Lando Max fighting each other in T12 late.

OK the predictions lists for the USGP are now locked out.
You can see all of the prediction lists here. I reversed the sort order so now you see the most recently saved prediction lists at the top, instead of having to scroll to the bottom of the page.

Oh, I noticed that we are exactly 75% through the season. We have a whole 25% of the season (six races) to go!

The ole push someone off track by going off track so they legally can't pass you.
Such a terrible change in F1 in the last 5 years.

Enter Apple. Off the back of 2025’s summer success smash in the Apple-produced F1 movie starring Brad Pitt, F1 announced on Friday it has agreed a five-year deal for Apple to become its exclusive broadcast partner in the U.S., starting in 2026. It’s a significant choice for the sport, shifting it away from linear American broadcasting and banking on a streaming platform. F1 believes it will serve as a shot in the arm for its popularity and its relevancy in the U.S.
The Athletic article just posted 5 mins ago?

Well, I'm really glad my last year of watching every F1 race will end with my favorite team winning it all. I have no intentions of adding yet another subscription. They really can't get out of their own way, they're about to see a MASSIVE drop in viewership.

Some good details in the link below. Sounds like standard F1 TV will be included with AppleTV subscription. Also, some races and content will be in front of paywall.
I'm still waiting to hear whether you will have to purchase an add-on to the standard sub to have access to F1.

At least it’s still available right?
People were paying to watch F1 TV and now they’ll be able to pay and watch it via AppleTV?
I’m pretty heavily entrenched in the Apple ecosystem already and have TV+, if that’s what they’re still calling it, via their Apple One Premier plan so this change isn’t costing me anything and potentially is an improvement in quality.
If this gives me access to some different streams as well, that might be nice.
I just hope they keep Sky’s broadcast team or something similar. I prefer watching/listening to my motor sports with a Brit accent

Sorry. Best Apple can do is James Hinchcliffe and Danica Patrick.

I've snuffed my torches and lowered my pitchforks for now. Fingers crossed multiviewer still works.

The Athletic article I'm reading says:
If this is true, that's great news. This was all I wanted. As long as they have no problem with the 3rd-party Multiviewer. I'll believe it when I see it though.
It's a shame that this will hurt the overall popularity of F1 in the US though.
(Whoops, I was typing slowly on my phone at the same time)

Be nice if I could cut my YouTube TV sub after this happens.

Only with boomers. Most people won’t mind.

You will likely lose the casual viewer. Plenty of people tune in because the racing was on ESPN/ABC/NBCSports. People waiting for the NFL to start or just the summer lull of no sports.
Now the casual viewer will have to have the Apple App plus be looking for something to watch. No chance of building your viewership base with that kind of access.

That dude's tweet did not word it very well. The actual text in the PR says:
quote:
Select races and all practice sessions will also be available for free in the Apple TV app throughout the course of the season.
My understanding is that in order to watch F1 races you need to have an AppleTV subscription, but a few races and all practice sessions will be free to watch in the app even if you don't have a subscription. So my guess is that Monaco and the three US races will be free to watch in the app without a subscription. The promoters of the US races must have been screaming at F1 that their races must be free to watch. Also, in a sneaky good move, they are making all practice sessions free to watch in the app without a subscription, as a way to lure people into paying up.
Also, the actual quote regarding F1TV:
quote:
F1 TV Premium, F1’s own premier content offering, will continue to be available in the U.S. via an Apple TV subscription only and will be free for those who subscribe.
