Alfredo and Ragan locked into the Daytona 500. Jimmie Johnson, BJ McLeod, JJ Yeley and Kaz Grala will race tomorrow night for the final two open spots.

Talks between NASCAR and Honda for Honda to join NASCAR are apparently “heating up.”

Alex Bowman will not continue his streak of Daytona 500 front row starts. Missed the top 10 and won’t advance to the final round of qualifying.

Logano wins the pole for the Daytona 500, Michael McDowell will start P2. The remainder of the field will be set by the Duels tomorrow night.
Hendrick Motorsports front row dominance in Daytona 500 qualifying comes to an end.

I don’t. I would say to those people that they missed the best era of NASCAR, and that what they’re seeing today is fun but not NASCAR at its very best.
Do most fans not like the playoffs? Seems like while just reading over the nascar thread last year that quite a few weren't fans.
Isit the format that people don't like? I might be misremembering what I read though i don't know.
Wish they would have spotlighted a few more drivers in the show like they did in Drive to Survive. I'm not going to pass judgment on them based off a 5 episode show but man Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace are just completely unlikable. Would have been nice to have a few more likable guys spotlighted.
Kind of seems like Tyler Reddick should be driving the 23, not the 45

Gonna be interesting watching a Honda Civic assblasting the Fords and Chevys.

There are some good ones this weekend. Two of my favorite are Chastain’s Busch Light scheme and William Byron’s Axalta scheme.

It probably depends on who you ask. Prior to 2004, it was just a year long points total and whoever had the most points won. That system seemed to award consistency across the whole season more than the “Chase” and “Playoff” did or do. The first playoff system NASCAR had (The Chase) arguably took championships away from some drivers, like Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards, who would’ve won the title under the old system.
In the current system, a win practically guarantees you a spot in the playoffs, even if you aren’t that great the rest of the season. I think that makes it feel gimmicky to people.
In regards to my earlier post about the best days of NASCAR having already passed, I just feel that way based on my belief that the Gen 4 car was such a great car back in the 90s and early/mid 2000s. Teams could bend the rules and make those cars better. The current cars are all the same and there is little the teams can do to get an advantage. The personalities back then were so great, too. I feel like most current day drivers lack the same kind of personality that we used to see in NASCAR.

The chase and playoffs seem like more manufactured drama than natural results. I grew up with the last 6-7 years of the Winston cup. So I miss that format. With a few tweaks it would’ve been great. Instead we have a scenario where one guy who does just enough all year can walk away with the trophy (like Logano in 2018).
As for Honda, the more the merrier. I wouldn’t mind seeing 6-7 manufacturers in NASCAR.

The Busch car looks great as always.
The 24 looks like something the cub scouts did for Pinewood derby.

True, but just like every American sport.
