Checo was always Christian’s boy, don’t think Helmut ever cared for him.

He is driving to win the championship which at this point means keeping Lando from getting points as much as possible. If he can get a penalty that keeps Lando in 2nd rather than winning (a 7 point difference) in exchange for dropping from 5th to 6th himself in the race (a 2 point drop) then it is worth it to him. And if an aggressive move knocks Lando, or both of them out of the race that is a win for him because it means one less race for Lando to catch him.
Exactly. Max is driving to win the title. Part of that is playing offense while on defense. He knows with points lead he can take more risks around him

If tweet fails to load, click here. As Verstappen has already served a 10-place grid drop due to the introduction of a fresh power unit at the Belgian GP, another internal combustion engine will trigger a five-place grid penalty.
Verstappen has already reached the limit of four allocated turbochargers, MGU-H, and MGU-Ks, as well as two energy stores and control electronics. Should he use a new component from any of these, he will trigger a further 10-place penalty
Edited to add: Right after I posted this Red Bull announced that he will only be taking a new engine, they believe the other parts will last the rest of the season.

I don't have a problem with Max, I have viewed him for a while as the best driver on the grid, but man he is starting to drive like a baby. The dude just literally can't handle being passed by Lando.
Please read what you wrote again. A race car driver….not wanting to be passed by another driver….makes him a baby.

You think that's what he was doing? You're giving him too much credit, he's not calculating points on the fly while he's racing. He was arguing about the penalties and didn't think he should have been penalized. So I guess he's pissed about the penalties but was actually purposefully doing it for a points advantage. Come on.

I didn't say it like that, you're being purposefully obtuse. I'm all for hard racing, but driving guys off the road numerous times so much so it was clear cut 20 seconds worth of penalties is being a baby, yes. Hell Martin Brundle said the same thing on air. This isn't some shocking statement.

So potential for him to serve 15 place penalty? Ouch
That almost guarantees that RB will come in 3rd in constructors.

I think he is 100% aware that he has to race Lando hard and make it as difficult as possible for Lando to score points. We are talking about Max and Christian Horner here, everyone knows they will exploit every opportunity they have to win.
Him arguing about the penalties could just be to cover himself so that the stewards don't say he is doing it all on purpose and recklessly.
And I am a big Max fan, and I think this is what he is doing.

I 100% agree. I just don't think that means him recklessly driving and taking 20 seconds (arguably could have been more) penalties and being close to wrecking Lando twice. All to stop one pass. It was clear that Lando was going to pass him/had the faster car. It also benefited Ferarri in the contructors as much as it benefited Max for the drivers.

I personally don't see that. But I can see that argument. Probably just agree to disagree thing.

That's already guaranteed unless the car magically improves and Perez becomes Senna Jr.

At this point, Max is racing Lando and only Lando. Typically drivers cannot make such aggressive defenses because it benefits the rest of the field so it’s better to just lose the 1 place quickly than to lose additional places in the process. It has nothing to do with being a baby or unsportsmanlike or whatever nonsense is getting tossed around by the British homers on Sky.
Max is doing what benefits him the most. At times, it’s a risk as seen in Mexico, but it worked out in Austin as he forced Lando into a mistake. We have a great view of things on TV and as talented as the drivers are, they don’t always know exactly who was ahead at the apex or how much space the other car has on track. So, it may be risky for Max at times, but he’s in the lead so he has the room to take those risks.

I've come to this conclusion also, especially since at no point on the team radio did they instruct max to give the place back. I think the plan was to do whatever it takes to stay ahead and slow him down, you can't just let him piss off in the distance. Hack a shaq, intentional pass interference to save a TD, throwing inside/hitting a batter. This exist in all forms of sports that flirt the line of poor sportsmanship, that simply doesn't fricking matter when you are trying to win a championship.
Max didn't win 2021 because he was a nice guy

Yep. There is a 7 point spread between first and second in the race.
If Max can make it more difficult for Norris to win a race he should, and will, do it.
Ferrari winning the last two races was music to Max's ears.
It should be noted that although Norris gained points last weekend, the number of points he needs to gain on Max in each remaining race actually went up.

I’ve always heard Zhou is in no danger of losing his seat because of his nationality and marketability there.
