So I listened to Max’s entire race radio, and they never asked him to switch spots. I listen to pretty much every race with Max and they have almost always told him to give places back or it’s been a situation where the pace was there and it wouldn’t matter. Has anyone seen an interview where they asked RB about this? Maybe im over thinking it but Im wondering if they wanted max to chill out and just manage the places between Lando and himself, and max was like no thanks. So they just let him get the penalty to see if that will slow him down?

Max is max and he wants to race hard all the time, but he has the points to manage the last 5 races to a championship but I think he may just not care and doesn’t want to win while playing defense.

Max comes off as a guy hasn’t been told no very often in his life. I won’t say he’s a spoiled, entitled brat because I think he’s as well-balanced as any son of Jos could be, but he certainly can’t handle true adversity with any grace or class. Imagine if he weren’t so far ahead in the standings. He’d likely be a true nightmare on the track. Next year could get very interesting.

I don’t disagree, I like my athletes to be psychos/dickheads. Jordan over LeBron type situation. Max brings excellence to the track every weekend and demands the same of the team. He’s not the most tactful and I don’t fault anyone for not liking him.

Yes. The first penalty was for forcing someone off the track. You can't "give that back".

The second penalty VER drove him off the track again, but got ahead. Once he was ahead he just built a gap between Lando and 2nd place. Max did more damage to Lando holding him up than the 20 seconds did to Max.

Agree, but he's getting a little too reckless at this point.

Would be hilarious if something happens and he DNFs and finishes low in one of the next few and Lando wins both. Would bascially pull them equal.

I like Max. He gives it all every race. And he’s the only one (I think) who didn’t take a knee for BLM back in 2020.

Imagine not having a true teammate. What I mean is a good teammate would be running close times and then you could use teammate to help find bits of speed. Right now Max has to do it all with limited time each race. People forget how much data 2 cars can generate vs 1. But as bad as his teammate is he’s on his own

There were 6 who didn't kneel. Some aren't on the grid anymore but Max wasn't alone.

LINK

quote:

The Formula One grid was divided ahead of the sport’s return as several drivers, including Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, chose not to kneel in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

quote:

In total six drivers chose not to kneel. The other four were Daniil Kvyat, Carlos Sainz, Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen.

Magnussen would later change his mind and stop kneeling.

quote:

"l think in terms of standing or kneeling, I want to make sure that I'm with the messaging of ending racism," Magnussen said. "I support that movement, and not any sort of political organisation that I think the Black Lives Matter movement is.

Id take developing my own setup versus having a great racer take points, upgrades, strategies off of me.

Back when clean air was king your teammate could help some, maybe. Being driven by a teammate is good to say. Dominating a championship because the 2nd fastest car is driven by a jack leg is not a bad spot to be.

If Checo had taken a race or two early this year Max would be sweating the 2nd half.

Those are now my 3 fave drivers. Always liked Max but now both Ferrari drivers. Thanks for digging out the info. Kneeling looks so dumb in hind site which I knew it would.

Finally got to watch the race last night. I had avoided spoilers. Sainz Atta boy.

That was a very entertaining first 20 laps or so. Just smooth operator after that. Not going to lie, I fast forwarded some in the middle.

As the year goes on it's actually seeming like Alonso should have been referring to Max instead of Lewis when he said on the radio that Lewis "only knows how to drive out front." I don't have a problem with Max, I have viewed him for a while as the best driver on the grid, but man he is starting to drive like a baby. The dude just literally can't handle being passed by Lando. Haven't gotten to catch up in the thread to see the boards opinion but man those were two well deserved penalties.

Both Christian Horner and Marko have commented about possible putting Calapinto in one of their seats. However, Franco has a long term contract with Williams. Red Bull are not interested in training a guy on a short term loan for another team.

They should offer RBR Albon in return.

They are done with him. Need to yank the band aid off and get a new driver if this is the best they can do.

He is driving to win the championship which at this point means keeping Lando from getting points as much as possible. If he can get a penalty that keeps Lando in 2nd rather than winning (a 7 point difference) in exchange for dropping from 5th to 6th himself in the race (a 2 point drop) then it is worth it to him. And if an aggressive move knocks Lando, or both of them out of the race that is a win for him because it means one less race for Lando to catch him.
