If the Mexican $$$ to keep Checo in the seat is more than 10m, which I'd imagine it is, then financially, they don't give a shite.
Reportedly they make a shite load in sales of RBR gear/Red Bull in Mexico due to Perez. He's apparently a national hero.
And a number of their sponsors, like Telcel, are likely tied to him.
I think the big teams really aren't all that concerned about the cash payouts for the championship when looking at the big picture. They're not like the Haas' of the world.
I've seen the numbers as much as $17 million spread between positions in the Constructors.
Tunnel time/computer time is more important than the cash difference between first and second/third in the constructors.
*They probably also factored in the extra security costs for the upcoming race in Mexico. Or feared for their lives.

Plus Checo's got a personal sponsorship lineup with deep pockets that includes Mobil and Disney and that's much better than Max's.

RBR doesn't care about the constructors
Bad news, but it doesn’t matter who they put in the seat, because unless they figure out what’s wrong with the car, they aren’t winning the constructors no matter what. It’s gonna be a fight to win the drivers.

Can you expound? Max struggled a little in the few prior races, but he still took pole last week and moved up about as far as he could.
I still think RB has a damn good car, but Mclaren and Merc are almost on par now. Whats hurting RB is out of those 3 teams, they have the worst driver in the #2 seat and not providing ANY support. Hell, worst driver in the top 4 teams if you include Ferrari.

He took pole because RB had the most downforce and it was a wet track. It’s hard to tell raw pace, but McLaren seem to have the faster car and no matter who they put in the spot(for their options) it won’t be as strong as Oscar

I agree, that Mclaren is fast as frick, but think RB would take constructors by a landslide if had a competent #2.
I'm all for watching the downfall and Mclaren take it this year. They have been my darkhorse team since RB dethroned Merc. They were a necessary evil.

That would be as dumb as keeping Checo. They essentially have a shite driver in the #2 seat and two VCARB drivers with no future in that seat. Makes no sense.
Amazing. Looks like they are letting Liam walk.

There will be no change to the driver line-up of Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda at second team RB either, the spokesperson said.

Exciting news for American owned Williams with the Sainz signing.
Albon / Sainz is going to be a formidable driver pairing, and the quali battle will be a close one. Good stuff.

Meh, owned by an American Investment firm.
But kept the Williams name and British home.

Not sure there is another seat out there for Liam other than vcarb. Red Bull knows this. And I fully expect he will have that seat next year.

Ha that’s wild, I wonder if it was truly about money or safety.

maybe, but I don't thing an F1 rookie or Yuki or Danny are going to be that much closer to max.

You may be right, but what you've got going right now isn't working and Mclaren continuing to close the gap.
Down to 46 point spread now.

They don't have to match Max's race pace. Checo's major problem is botching qualy. Danny had a problem with qualy early in the season, but he seems pretty steady now.

My first reaction to that tweet is of course being appalled that the F1 commercial rights holder is interfering with the sporting side of F1.
My second reaction is, MEXICO NEEDS TO FIND A NEW NATIONAL HERO.
Someone in that twitter thread had a good idea. Sign Pato O'Ward immediately. Put him in the VCARB for now and Mexico will have someone to root for. Pato would be an instant hit with the Mexicon fans, who already know him.
Pato is a great driver and very fast. The reason he hasn't won an IndyCar championship yet is (IMO) he has that weird latin temperament that does not serve you well when things get intense. If Pato had absorbed Scott Dixon's super cool and calculating approach to racing, he would have been a champion by now.
IndyCar team owners generally do not interfere when a driver has an F1 opportunity, for the obvious reason that an F1 hopeful (e.g., a recent F2 driver) wouldn't want to drive for you if they felt you might hinder any F1 opportunity that may come along. The problem here of course is that Zak Brown might not let Pato go to a competitor in the middle of the season. Alex Palou was smart to back out of driving for McLaren, even if it is going to cost him money. Zak Brown is just too shady.
Edit: Whoops, had to look this up. Pato O'Ward is eligible for an FIA Super Licence after finishing P4 in last year's IndyCar championship.

Do they really think Mexico wouldn't sell out if Checo wasn't there
