Was avoiding the F1 thread because I wasn't able to watch the race until last night so wanted to avoid spoilers.

Didn't expect to see the news about Sainz signing with Williams. Kind of pumped about that, my two favorite drivers on a team I hope can make a jump. Hopefully the car improves.

Really surprised Ferrari didn't go the Russell route with Sainze. He was at 20 laps on the first set of hards and still had pace. Should have just let him take them another lap or two and risked it with another set of hards. That pair of mediums for 5-6 laps was pointless.

Wait, what?

Edit: Google tells me you're not joking. Wow.

Now you know how we all felt as well. Was a couple pounds light. Cool down lap of track picking up rubber marbles on tires likely would have made that up but they don’t do those cool down laps at SPA

Edit: Whoops, had to look this up. Pato O'Ward is eligible for an FIA Super Licence after finishing P4 in last year's IndyCar championship.

Is there a place to see where current drivers stand in SL points? Or did you just go figure it out?

This is a solid idea, I don’t know who I would root for in Indy Car if Pato left but it would be great for him.

My first reaction to that tweet is of course being appalled that the F1 commercial rights holder is interfering with the sporting side of F1

Bernie Ecclstone did the same.

Mercedes Engineer on the DQ

quote:

Mercedes' trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin revealed higher than expected tyre wear and plank wear plus the fact that Russell lost "quite a bit of weight" during the race, contributed to the car being too light when weighed post-race.

"The car can lose quite a lot of weight during the race. You get tyre wear, plank wear, brake wear, oil consumption."

"The driver themselves can lose a lot, and in this particular race George lost quite a bit of weight.

"The cars started the race the same weight. Lewis and George were both weighed after qualifying. The cars were within 500 grams.

"George's car was the only one that had the problem, and it is because things like the tyre wear was much higher. It looks like we lost more material on the plank.

"We will collect all that data though, look at how we can refine our processes because, clearly, we do not want that to happen in the future."

Drivers lose a lot of weight during races - two to three kilograms - due to loss of fluid but it is thought that Russell lost more than expected.

Sholvin also admitted that, as the race went on, the lower weight would have given Russell an advantage over Hamilton and McLaren's Oscar Piastri who came third.

Maybe Hamilton made weight because of that thing moving on his leg.

With the temporary confirmation of Perez, it seems dictated not so much by motivational or sporting choices, but by purely economic reasons: Carlos Slim, the financier and generous sponsor of the Mexican, intervened to defend his protégé, while the Red Bull staff had already decided on the cut.

Pay driver Perez.

F1 | RACING BULLS: A IMOLA GIRANO RICCIARDO E LAWSON NEL FAMILY DAY

RB downfall continues... Have to think Max going to Merc is almost 100% certain at this point.

Wheatley leaving is huge. Definitely was not expecting that to come thru.

Good for him though, he's going to be a great TP. And needless to say, KICK (Audi) can use all the pit stop help they can get
