I'll be the first to admit i thought this race was going to suck but it ended up being a pretty decent race, but its time for the Bubba Wallace can actually drive crap. Dude sucks.

Some of my thoughts,
Still don’t like racing in streets with these cars
It took a bunch of special circumstances to have a good finish. Thats not normal and not to be expected next year. Nascar racers don’t do streets, so of course a street ringer can come in and excel. I love that he won and upset the apple cart. But to be fair he had newer tires than the leaders. And the leaders were only up front due to a late call by nascar to reduce race to 75 laps. This killed the real leaders who got shuffled way back. Only a street ringer could pass on this course.
A nascar contract worker was killed setting up nascar Chicago. Pray for his faimily
Xfinity was called before halfway, nascar invented new rules on the fly
Other than SVG there were more cars wrecked than on track passes. Most who moved up only did so becaise drivers wrecked
Bubba has no reason to be in a nascar.
Did not agree with how Nascar handled reducing race from 100 to 75. They needed to back the decision up where it was made before any last pit stops. The way they did it favored some drivers and ruined others races who had stayed in top all race long. Thats not racing its manufactured drama. A once in a lifetime driver (SVG) made the ending fun, without him and nascsr race reduction this race would have been remembered as a pure wreckfest.
None of the walls have safer barriers. Luckily the tires helped out in some spots. A dry track would have seen some serious damage done and higher injury risk.
IMO the suspense was manufactured due to rare cumircumstances that will never be repeated again. A dry race would have been a parade and some wrecks but very little passing. These cars and drivers are jot street racers and thats why SVG won.

Fair points. I’d just like to see a race in normal conditions before offering a final judgement.
Someone on another board said if not for those special circumstances, it would’ve been Monaco with fenders. Acknowledging that you can’t pass for caca at Monaco, that’s still one of the prestige “events” in F1. This is a whole lot better “event” for NASCAR than the Coliseum monstrosity.

He's reckless, but there are at least 15 other full time drivers that are objectively worse than him.

15? I bet you can’t name 5. Keeping in mimd the great equipment and support Bubba has (Jordan/Hamlin/Toyota). I say that because look at first year driver Reddick and how he’s performed in same equipment. Bubba is barely hanging onto playoff spot in 15th. And drivers like Chase with 7 less races is only 55 points below cutoff. And Bowman as well. Without their injuries Bubba is outside playoffs. He is doing the worst for the support he gets. I can’t think of another driver in as good equipment doing worse.

I have pulled for the guy, I think he could be good for the sport. But he simply is not progressing. That is the bottom line.

The whole noose thing made his short term career and destroyed it long term.
It helped get him the recognition and sponsorship to put him into top 10 equipment and now he’s showing that he’s not the total package that are typically in those rides.
Great restrictor plate racer, average intermediate track driver that gets carried by his equipment sometimes. Pretty meh otherwise and hot garbage on road courses.
Sorry for being racist.

Watching SVG in car on YouTube. It’s amazing watching his car control and listening to his throttle and braking. Just how easily he passed and drove away from some of the best nascar has to offer. Is he more in his element than the others? Sure. No one is denying that. It’s still an incredible thing to win in your first try.

You're correct, but the jersey barriers aren't permanent walls either. They inherently have movement in the during high speed impacts. While they aren't soft walls, they have enough energy dissipation in the that the don't require a safer barrier.

Amazing the numbers you can get when you don't pin it to a second rate cable network only.
Posted on 7/3/23 at 5:47 pm to Pfft
Still the highest numbers of any race aired on NBC in 6 years. Strong numbers

Kyle Petty said this morning on Sirius:
1. The reaction to Chicago is just a pebble in the water as far as where NASCAR can go with this, and they need to embrace the ripples and where it could take the sport.
2. It’s time to look at timed races that fit into a defined television window and you end up with how many laps you end up with. And not just things like Chicago but ovals too.

I agree. This was a rousing success and they need to build on it while the momentum is there.

I'm 100% okay w/this. Especially considering people's short attention spans these days.

Formula 1 is 2 hours or 200 miles. We are very hung up on the 500 mile thing.
