Donohue actually had run four of Penske’s eight starts the year before, three of them on ovals, he wasn’t just a one off. Penske only raced the full NASCAR schedule once in the ‘70s before he took his 15-year or so break before coming back with Wallace in the 1990s.

was the contract just for one year?

I believe so.

NASCAR has been looking at other cities. I know Pittsburgh is among them. But I'd love it in Chicago again.

It's a 3 year contract! Hoping for better weather next year. I live a few blocks away, it was so fun!

Honestly didn't know that.

Thanks for the clarification.

Boris Said ran Daytona (the 500 three times), Talladega, California, Kansas, Homestead, Indy, Vegas, Atlanta. Is he still a road course ringer?

Fellows ran one race other than Sonoma or WG in Cup, New Hampshire.

I hope they do this again, was the contract just for one year?

I think 3 but the mayoral race has a lot hanging on it going the full term

We'd be remiss not to mention happy 86th birthday to Richard Petty.

Well, that was fun. I moved over to LSD, and you could tell how fast the 91 was going.

Chase looked like he was gaining on Haley for a lap or two, but SVG was hauling arse.

All due respect to one of GOAT’s, but Richard Petty’s look has always cracked me up.

The man is 86 and still dying his hair jet black, wearing black out shades, and a cowboy hat.

And today is the day I learned Johnny Rutherford won the Daytona 500.

He actually didn’t. He won one of the qualifying races for the Daytona 500 in 1963, and at that time those races paid points.

This is such a different tune from earlier today and earlier in the week when a couple people ITT were predicting doom and failure. Not from you but they know who they are but they are conspicuous in their silence right now. It was a great race. Well done NASCAR.

I’ll give them credit. It was a really interesting race.

Yeah Richard tries not to look like he’s 86 but if you’ve heard any recent interviews with him he’s starting to sound it.

Driving Smokey Yunick’s Chevy. If I am not mistaken Rutherford actually had the fastest qualifying speed that year although he didn’t get the pole because he didn’t do it first day.
