I hate to break it to you but, a Nascar racecar doesn't explode if you look at it the wrong way......

If F1 drivers could lean on each other, they would....

To remind you guys that F2 is an inferior product. More than 20 guys for a pit stop? Really?

NASCAR such a good product you are trolling a F1 thread during the race.

Any coincidence that it happened on the only track the series share?

I've watched a bit of NASCAR. I've even been in the pits at races, and I just don't find it as interesting as F1. Sorry if that upsets you.

Well, no. This is a direct assault on the freedom of speech and thought and, thus, reason - the foundation of the West.

I see I have garnered some downvotes, so I want to make sure my statement is clear. I am saying Brazil's exorbitant fine of its own citizen is the assault on free speech, free thought, and reason. I am not saying Piquet's comments do that.

I was a big NASCAR fan growing up. Now I am a big F1 fan. I do miss how the NASCAR drivers "trade paint."

Also, I don't think the driving in this gif is impressive. He's flooring it and ramming it up against the barricade. It's exactly what I do when I play a racing video game or drive go-karts at the beach. Where is the skill in that?

F1 is 2/3 car and 1/3 driver.

If I'm being honest, its not.

But it gets to the durability of the cars racing in Nascar, which is about Eleventy Billion times more durable than a F2 car.....

Agreed. There ain't much driver going on in this race.

I haven't watched a Nascar race in ages. Not sure when ESPN stopped covering it but I really haven't even kept up with the standing in years. ESPN has pretty much forgotten about Nascar and to an extent, baseball as well. Which is a bit sad.

But to say there ain't much going on in a Nascar race is a bit ridiculous (unless you were meaning that one race in particular). I like F1 10x better than I do Nascar, but I think even though they are just going around in circles, they are better drivers/racers. Meaning they are more important to the outcome than F1 drivers are.

That's the one thing that is a bit frustrating to me about F1 is that even though you have 20 cars, there's really only a chance of MAYBE 5 drivers winning on any given race. This year it almost looks like there is a chance for two. That can make for some pretty boring racing. I never felt that way watching Nascar.

re: Nascar vs. Formula 1

I love all motor sport. F1 is my favorite, but I'll watch any kind of racing.

Hell I might watch boat racing if I happen to see it on TV

I guess this is an indication that IndyCar has huge problems with the product and/or marketing when someone in an F1 thread brings up the biggest difference in the on-track fan experience* between F1 and IndyCar (everyone in IndyCar uses the same chassis and aero so every team has a chance to win races if they can get everything else right), but IndyCar is not even brought up in the conversation.

(*To be clear, IMO the fact that F1 is much faster than IndyCar on road courses is irrelevant to the experience. They are both fast and as a fan, the on-track battles are what make it interesting to watch. And you can't see the technology differences while watching a race (except DRS, which isn't as good as the far-more-strategic time-limited push-to-pass system). F1 is an eye-popping glamorous idea and feeling, and a technology showcase, more than a racing series.)

I appreciate both for what they are, but NASCAR has kinda been ruined for me by the points system and the playoffs. Especially after getting into F1 where each position in the standings is so valuable and hard fought for. Plus each week is equally important.

Like if Kmag or Hulk finish P5 one week that’s a huge deal. NASCAR has kinda made it win or bust which I guess is exciting in a way, but often turns the race into a clown show of wrecks because it’s win or bust.

Also the cautions are often bullshite to manufacture drama.

I didn't realized I brought up IndyCar. Something I've never watched in my entire life. I was talking about F1 and Nascar. Unless you were talking about someone else.

Sorry, that was totally vague! I meant, you brought up an issue with F1 (only a few teams have a reasonable chance to win a race) that I believe happens to be the biggest on-track difference from a fan perspective between F1 and IndyCar, but IndyCar is NOT even brought up in the conversation after there have been several posts comparing F1 to NASCAR. I found that funny because IndyCar is much more similar to F1 than NASCAR is.

If you are a relatively recent F1 fan (in particular if you were brought in by Drive to Survive), then it totally makes sense that you haven't watched any IndyCar, but I didn't think about this recent phenomenon. I assumed most F1 fans have watched some IndyCar, although it may be that a lot of F1 fans have seen only the Indy 500 but never an IndyCar road race.

Again, my main comment was that IndyCar is suffering from a bad product and/or terrible marketing when it's not even brought up in a conversation where IndyCar has its strength (the competitive nature up and down the grid). I happen to think the product is pretty good so it must be terrible marketing.
