Slow day at work, so I've been thinking way too much about this. Sainz/Ferrari need to be getting louder about the grid penalty. Absolutely terrible. Stewards claim there is no rule that allows them to not penalize Sainz. My question is when have rules ever stopped them?

99.9% of the time?
Sky strongly hinted Mercedes would appeal and win if he was not penalized. Blame them if anything.
I did not want him to get a penalty either.

frick Mercedes
They appealed last time the rules were made up, and they lost.

Went back to look at the 2017 Malaysia GP, where RoGro hit the loose drain.
The track ended up paying the team money for the incident.

I would 100% be disputing those charges as others have said.

I am sorry. Looks like Sky jumped the gun again. They ended up saying it was just an FIA decision. We can blame only them again,

Interesting interview with some of the team principals during the delay this morning. Zak Brown said that he expects it will still take another year for McClaren to optimize with new hires and new tech including a wind tunnel, simulator and manufacturing unit so they should reach full potential in 2025.

Allegedly 1.7B being pumped into their economy. If that is true then the locals will have to get over it. Their employers want it.
And how much lost over prior 5-6 months with all the shutdowns and the likes?

Supposedly the gamblers are avoiding the race and race fans are not gamblers so the casinos are not doing well.

I have always thought these numbers are bullshite and essentially just made up. I would be in realty the numbers aren't half of that.

I, for one, have no intention of ever attending a race in person, and I’d wager I’m the majority of Americans who watch.

Easily predictable... And the fear of all the Europeans in town for the race and the fact that they don't tip. So lots of places are adding surcharges.

Check this out:
Concerns surrounding a Grand Prix?
At the 1970 Mexican GP, an estimated 200k fans showed up and overwhelmed the facility
Drivers rode around in safety cars pleading with spectators to move away from the edges of the course
The race proceeded in questionable conditions...

I imagine it will come out in the wash eventually.
Those casinos that essentially footed the bill are businesses and are beholden to shareholders. If they don't make the money expected we will know.

That just wasted 3 minutes of my day. Was something supposed to happen?

Watch it 3 times and you’ve seen as much racing today as people in Vegas.

And rallies all over the world have spectators just as close, if not closer, yet today.
Not saying it's smart, it's dumb as frick to be that close with no barrier, but I am so tired of the safety virtue signalers at this point I'm about done with racing.
Have seen loads of people saying the race should be cancelled, Sainz could have died, the pit exit is unsafe, the pit entrance is unsafe, it's too cold to be safe, etc etc etc.
I want to strangle some of these fricks.

Had it recorded so I skipped to P2 after P1 was cancelled. Was not expecting that to be the issue wtf. What an embarrassment.
This could really screw Carlos over.
