color highlights of 1955 Monaco GP featuring the Mercedes of Fangio and Moss.
Fangio led half the race until his car died but moss was faster in 2nd. Fangio was the same age as Alonso but looked like a retired plumber walking around in the pits
This was also Alberto Ascaris last race but he made it memorable by blasting through the chicane and into the Med while leading. He would die 3 days later at Monza at the age of 36.
Teams were not limited to two cars until the mid 80s. Crazy seeing Lancia and Ferrari with so many cars on the grid

On 26 May, he went to Monza to watch his friend Eugenio Castellotti test a Ferrari 750 Monza sports car. They were to co-drive the car in the 1000 km Monza race, having been given special dispensation by Lancia. Ascari was not supposed to drive that day but decided to try a few laps. In his jacket and tie, shirt sleeves, ordinary trousers and Castellotti's white helmet he set off.[3][4][17] As he emerged from a fast curve on the third lap the car inexplicably skidded, turned on its nose and somersaulted twice. Thrown out onto the track, Ascari suffered multiple injuries and died a few minutes later.[3][4][26] The crash occurred on the Curva del Vialone, one of the track's challenging high-speed corners. The corner where the accident happened, renamed in his honour, has been subsequently replaced with a chicane, now called Variante Ascari.[26]

Hulk will be running the old aero package on the Haas.
With no high speed corners this track isn't going to be shite for developing the setup either. But, the OG Haas is pretty good in low speed and has good top end.

but isn't this what every city that hosts a road race goes through? What makes Vegas so different?
Bc the business of vegas is tourism... Nearly 40m people a year visit.
Compare that to 2m for Singapore, 7m for Monaco, 800k for Baku... What other street courses am I forgetting?
The construction has been going on for 6 months, shutting down all major roadways around the strip and even the strip itself, shutting down attractions, etc..

Have to say though that they had some overhead shots during Sunday Night Football last night with the paddock and parts of the track lit up and it's stunning visually.

Oh yeah, its going to be visually sexy depending on the angle... I'm sure they will blackout all of the gas stations and crack house businesses on the back side.
The area where they had to build the temporary bridge for cars to get into the area once they block off the track is skid row esque

Don't see how the businesses or locals go for this after this year. Imagine there will be uproar to cancel go forward.
Locals dont go to that area often. Doubt they will notice that much

I have another stupid question. Why are they doing this race in the middle of the night and not a normal local times lot like COTA was?
Posted on 11/14/23 at 7:20 am to TigerFanatic99
Because Vegas, I guess. The time is close to some main event fights they have there. Stupid, but whatever. I'll watch it on my normal European schedule and have breakfast while watching it.
I just saw starting tire pressures are 27/24.5 PSI! That's ludicrous.

-A huge part of the appeal is it being a night race with all of the Vegas strip lights making it visually stunning
-Also makes it a morning race in Europe and afternoon/evening in Asia.

BREAKING: General Motors says it has registered with the FIA to be an F1 power unit manufacturer from 2028 onwards.
Andretti Cadillac would be powered by a GM power unit should it be successful with its F1 entry #F1

Andretti Cadillac is still targeting 2025 to first enter, but GM has made clear with this announcement that its involvement includes being a full PU manufacturer a few years later #F1
f1 running out of excuses to reject andretti.

No, its all for the European audience.
The allure of Vegas weighs more with foreigners than people here.
