Why is the Vegas race starting so late?

Because it's essentially a Vegas tourism ad aimed at Europe and Asia.

I just read F1 paid two hundred mill for the land and built the paddock, which is permanent.

Wow, I did not know that...

Btw, drove down the backside on way to the strip and was thinking to myself "this isn't exactly the most glamorous thing to show on tv..."gas stations and shitty stores along the way.

Outside of the strip or paddock, can guarantee it won't be wide-angle cameras

On all the other street courses, its not trashy buildings

Baku covers their trashy with tarps painted like fancy buildings.

But yes, Vegas is trashy. Like depressingly trashy, at least to me. I have to go there for work sometimes, and I get in a bad mood as soon as I step off the plane and see slots in the concourse. It's so sad. I sometimes end up renting a car and heading out into the desert instead of staying in the city. Last couple times it was a Porsche GT3 and C7 Z06. , but not enough to actually own one

BTW I was flipping through YouTube and ran across the original movie Grand Prix its rivaled only by LeMans as the greatest racing movie of all time.

Bought both movies on Prime a long time ago so I can watch any time.

Malory Archer wasn't bad in her day either.

After watching Kym's video I am ready for this.

Going to be such a trainwreck that you can't look away from. Can't think of something more Vegas.

Do we expect a lot of passing or a parade on Saturday?

Long straight following a relatively low speed non aero dependent complex going in to a tight braking zone guarantees a passing zone with DRS.

Great question. Curious to hear some thoughts.

From looking at the track, and playing it on the PS5 , the only place to really pass is the long straight down Las Vegas BLVD.

You have some chance just outside of the first few turns, but its relatively short.

The few realistic passing zones plus the cold temps and the Pirelli's terrible performance when not at optimal temps will surely result in some crashes.

Drivers complain about those Pirelli's during perfect weather already. The tires in Vegas will never get right.

Thoughts?

Max out with an engine failure DNF.
Alonso has to retire the car.
Checo wins.
Lando always the bridesmaid and finishes second.
Stroll podium and rocketpoweredmohawk has a stroke.
Poor LeClerc and Sainz finish 4-5.
Mercedes eats tires and finishes 6 and 8 with Danny Ric sandwiched between them.
Sargeant at 9 cuz wut tha frick is a kilometer?
Yuki at 10 for a double points day for AT.

HOW BOUH DAH?

Such a cluster... Like he said, I think people were excited at the prospect of this at first, but it is a huge clusterfrick.

Don't see how the businesses or locals go for this after this year. Imagine there will be uproar to cancel go forward.

I know people are complaining, but isn't this what every city that hosts a road race goes through? What makes Vegas so different?
