NASCAR has amended the rules on appeals to allow more people on both sides to present the case. It allows for multiple NASCAR officials to present NASCAR’s side.

Reading through NASCAR Twitter in the past couple of weeks, and especially in the last 3 days, people are really feeling down about NASCAR right now. Ratings have been down compared to last year for playoff races so far, NASCAR continues to look stupid with how it handles penalties, the next-Gen car has significant safety concerns, talks of another OEM jointing the sport have fallen through, and now NASCAR isn’t happy about losing appeals and wants to have more influence in hearings. Seems like the bad news is just piling up.

I heard on siriusxm Nascar radio today that Custer's penalty was the first time Nascar has used the race manipulation penalty since MWR "spingate." I found that surprising and interesting.

Tony is mad.

"I’m not going to talk about it," Stewart said. "I’m so mad at NASCAR right now, I’m not talking about it."

“ If it weren’t for the fact that I’ve got a couple of appearances that I have to make, I wouldn’t be in another NASCAR race the rest of the year. Wouldn’t waste my time”

“ Stewart sent out a tweet Tuesday night that read, “Looking for a new weekend hobby (something not south eastern based) if anyone has any ideas. Something low drama and relaxing preferably.”

NASCAR needs to re-evaluate how they want their sport to be viewed. Right now it comes across as WWE/NFL on wheels. At least to me it does.

The playoffs. The inconsistent penalties. The sanctioning body and drivers at odds with each other.

Bring back the season long championship. Put someone in the tower with stones to penalize drivers that deserve it. And how about they listen to the guys that actually are putting everything on the line.

Once they do all that, it will go back to being a sport. It is somewhat scripted entertainment right now.

Go back to old days:

Here's what the car HAS TO have, and here's what it CANNOT have. The rest is up to the teams.

It’s funny they went to the playoff format because Kenseth won a championship without ever winning a race. There is a possibility that could happen again. Blaney has not won a race this year. I would laugh my arse off if that did happen.

I'm low-key hoping it happens. It's happened in both the Xfinity and Truck Series.

Kenseth won either the 2nd or 3rd race in 2003.

I really don’t mind the playoffs.
At least the last races mean something.
If a guy has an insurmountable lead at the end, the race is nothing more than the NFL pro bowl.

I've been a NASCAR fan since the 80's and watching the decline of the sport hasn't been fun. From where they were to where they are all boils down to ONE thing. They simply can't get out of their own fricking way.

From slapping sport icons like Dale and Smoke and KB on the wrist for calling them out on their bullshite, to stupid unnecessary cautions that impact the outcome of the race, to blatant and obvious favoritism towards teams and manufacturers, to elimination of fan favorite tracks in favor of cookie cutter borefest tracks, to non fan friendly start times, unrealistic profit sharing with teams, and the list goes on and on and on.

Just plug and play any era for the above mentioned and the results are the same. They people sitting in the velvet chair calling the shots are so out of touch with what the drivers and teams need and what the fans want they keep stepping on their own dicks every chance they get.

It's been frustrating as hell to watch. I've gone from going to multiple races a year to only even listening to or watching 4 races a year. I'll watch Daytona and 'Dega on may listen to a few others if I'm outside working on something. It's all become so predictable.

Damn, for some reason I thought he didn’t win a race that year.

Kurt Busch is out the rest of the year and has announced his retirement from full time racing.

Gonna miss him in the Cup series.

Tyler Reddick will be going to 23XI racing next year to drive the 45, not in 2024.

Busch's retirement leaves Kevin Harvick as the last active driver who raced when NASCAR's top series was called the Winston Cup Series.

Now that we are near the end I am rethinking and taking this back somewhat.
The final race in this system is four guys trying and the rest riding around and letting them pass at will. Yes it’s a bit of hyperbole but not entirely off.
If the playoff final 4 end up placing 3, 6, 9 and 14th I will recant. Until then I’m not sure it’s not WWE.

On the other hand does a season long points champion make any more sense with a good chance that the last races mean nothing and people are getting points for leading laps?

Is there an alternative?

I say increase races to 40. Add a few DH so that no more weeks get added to calendar. Data shows that when the season was near 30 races the title was closer. Nascar isn’t going back to 30 races. Have 4 DH a year and rotate them around.

Not bad.
What if they went back to total points and paid big money for wins at the end?
I don’t know the answer.
If total points was all there was to it, we should just give the National League title to the Dodgers.

NASCAR sucks because:
It’s turned in to daddy ball on wheels. No more drivers that came up fabricating their car and figuring g out how to race. It’s rich daddy boys.

Cautions at stage breaks. This is bush league.

Spec racing that requires less skill to drive. Too much downforce. To little horsepower. (I’m not saying they aren’t good drivers, it’s just easier to drive the tracks with this downforce/horsepower combo.)

They are slow and cumbersome looking on most road courses that are designed for open wheel racing. Watkins Glen is great for stock cars, Indy, COTA are not.

There is too much emphasis on “side by side” racing instead of letting skill and setup decide races. The screwed up Bristol and Dover. They used to be Treacherous tracks that separated the drivers from the riders. Now they are “ side by side” snoozefests.

There are other reasons but these are the biggest for me.

Interesting info from Bob Pockrass concerning the future for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Gene Haas on grid said he wants Cole Custer to return to 41 next yr but Tony Stewart wants to give Ryan Preece a shot so TBD for 2023 ... Haas also said Kevin Harvick has indicated he won't return after 2023 (his deal up) but Haas trying to convince him to do an extension.
