Also in other Mercedes news:

If Mercedes start challenging for race wins, its basically game over for Leclerc and Ferrari. They already have too much of a gap to make up to Max/Red Bull, without losing points to Mercedes too.

Mercedes’ gap to the front could be closed before the summer break. As bouncing is completely solved, data is being directed to upgrades that will bring performance to the W13.
Engineers say their best upgrade will be one we can’t see, most likely under the car.

They were headed for an easy 1-2 in austria they just need to figure out why their engines keep hand-grenading

I mean by the same token it also takes potential points off the table for RBR, so could be interesting...

How many Ferrari PUs explode in the heat this weekend? I say three.

This thread been as sleepy as a French GP. Can't wait for my Sunday nap.

You know what - I'm gonna say it - where is The Obtuse One?

I hate that track
I won't miss it leaving the schedule. The painted tarmac is ridiculous.

What are they replacing it with?

The track was reconfigured as a very safe test track, hence the high-grip runoff areas and the huge number of layout options. I was surprised that F1 went back there and never liked the idea. I always liked Magny-Cours, and it's the only other FIA Grade 1 track in France, so I hope that's a possibility.
quote:
Wiki: After Paul Ricard's death, the track was sold to Excelis, a company owned by Formula One promoter Bernie Ecclestone, in 1999. The track was rebuilt into an advanced test track, and was for a time known as the Paul Ricard High Tech Test Track (Paul Ricard HTTT) before changing its name back to Circuit Paul Ricard.
The track is known for its distinctive black and blue run-off areas known as the Blue Zone. The runoff surface consists of a mixture of asphalt and tungsten, used instead of gravel traps, as common at other circuits. A second, deeper run-off area is the Red Zone, with a more abrasive surface designed to maximize tyre grip and hence minimize braking distance, although at the cost of extreme tyre wear. The final safeguard consists of Tecpro barriers, a modern improvement on tyre barriers.

It ain't going nowhere - they'll build another circuit soon I predict

I’ve been wondering the same thing. He’s still actively posting. Love his insights in this thread.

Ah, that’s too bad.
I hoped the would relocate the race to somewhere more interesting in France

Must've been a boring FP1 if this thread is still on page 2.
I didn't get to watch much but did hear that McLaren brought upgrades and were running them on Daniel's car in FP1 to have a side by side comparison to Lando's non-updated car.
Checked the timing charts to see if it did them any good.
Daniel was still 0.45 slower

Haas has proven that upgrades don't mean shite if you don't understand the car.
Lando spoke this week on what a mess the Mclaren car is this year.

Both practices were boring and uneventful.
Merc did perform pretty well. Going to be interesting to see how the back half of the season goes and if Ferraris have banked enough constructor points to offset their exploding engines and prevet Merc from catching them.

Come Spa we will see who benefitted from the "flexi-floor" discourse.
Ferrari seems to have admitted they will suffer.
