Just adding my comments, I know noone cares.

- to tag on the daughter talk, my 4yo made a Fathers day poster. On it they asked her what my favorite thing to watch, she said Auto Racing. Her response was my favorite thing about the poster. Today when the action got crazy I jumped out of my seat, yelled and clapped. My daughter said I scared her.

- havent watched replays, but I think Checo should have given position back.

- I think VER should have gotten penalty on MSC. Yes Im being homer.

- For the first time in years, I found myself cheering on HAM

- Really glad for SAI to put it all together.

- So happy for double points for HAAS. Has that ever happened?

- Im the rare person that has never been a RIC fan, so of course Ill have opinion. I am a Papaya guy though. I think RIC struggles might be the path of least resistance for an American driver. Im licking my chops for the next drivers testing and seeing how they compare to RIC.

Ferrari actually told him to hold HAM back to let Chuck pull out a lead

I guess I missed that. Glad Sainz ignored that then. Charles tires had 17 laps on them with the restart and Sainze was clearly immediately faster. I mean it took 5 laps for Charles tires to even warm up. Easily could have cost them the win if Sainz would have had to stay back.

to whom? He lost a position to ham and gained one on lec IIRC. Not sure how you fix that except let them race which they did and it was glorious

A 5 sec penalty is customary when a position is gained that can't be given back.

Just got caught up with the race. What an amazing race!

Question: If Mercedes had brought Hamilton in as soon as he had that 19 second gap to the first of the Ferraris and they hadn't botched the pitstop, would he have come out ahead of both Ferraris with a chance to win the race? I didn't understand why Mercedes kept Hamilton on those Medium tires in that first stint for so long. This was Hamilton's best chance to win a race this season. The melts here if he actually pulled it off would be epic.

While Merc wanted to win I'm not sure their strategy was ever to really go for the win. They went for best result.

The only reason to keep him out at that point was to put him on soft tires as the announcers alluded to. Putting him on hard tires completely nullified the benefit of keeping him out that long, even before the safety car.

It would’ve been close. I think they kept him out bc he kept saying his tires were still good. He was matching LEC’s pace until his last 2 laps on the meds…then LEC got his hards lit up and the gap started to shrink.

He just can’t help himself:

quote:

Charles did a great job, what a great battle. He is a very sensible driver, clearly a lot different to what I experienced last year," Hamilton told Sky Sports after the race.

Race of the year so far - incredible.

The final bit of wheel to wheel racing at the end is why F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport.
