Every interview I’ve seen, stated he was unresponsive and the Dr on scene said, “it was very apparent he had a basilar skull fracture”.

They told him about the wreck and it didn't look good, then asked again when he went by. Schrader probably told him more than anybody knew, at the time.

Blood was pooled. Dale hemorrhaged profusely out of his mouth, nose, and ears. He couldn't have spoken if he was alive.
