It's because of the full containment seats they use now. No way to pull a driver straight out the roof as the head supports are over their shoulders.

I've been saying since it happened that he got hit almost directly into the head supports. Absolutely scary impact to an area not built for that

If I'm not mistaken, there is a level 2 trauma center across the street from the track. Quicker just to drive then get a chopper up and down and up and down again 2 miles away.

These papers had headline ready for a close finish.
Just like Hamlin celebrating they hit enter on a pre made headline before they really knew what happened.
