CBJ defender that took puck to the face has broken cheekbone and is out for 1 game.

Zach Werenski is out for the remainder of the season, per John Tortorella.

Andersen has not been that good. He's giving up a ton of rebounds. If our team would just crash the net...

I'm surprised they let Werenski back out there. It was clear he had facial fractures or at least a high likelihood of them.

We're watching a different series then, because WE have NO frickING DEFENCE
Wait maybe it's because Washington is the Buffalo bills of hockey...no because they can't get past the second round.

Yah, somewhat cleaver.

he has played very well and made some game clinching saves trying to cover a weak hodge podge of a defense.

won't argue that at all

yup. If i was babs watching what i watched last game, i would have been doing cartwheels on the bench or maybe even the ice seeing your defenseman make the same mistakes over and over and over. weak staying in lanes, weak on body or poke checks, weak clearing puck, and on and on and on. I lost track how many times i saw a caps guy blow by or between leafs defenders going straight at anderson.

Yeah the Caps are getting too cutesy and trying to make the perfect pass. They are beating their defender and instead of taking the shot, making one extra pass instead of firing on net and going for rebounds. Andersen has played well, but not other-worldy. He's giving up rebounds, but not a ton, which is more the fault of Caps shooters for A) not shooting and B) shooting high into his glove. Keep it low, make him use the blockers, and get some rebounds. The Caps are bigger and beefier, they should win battles in front of the net, they just haven't been battles to win.
Faceoffs were a HUGE factor. I don't see how this is even debatable. The Leafs won 61-39 on the dot, which is a massive edge, including on the game winner. This is great tactics by Babcock, as he's pushing his edge on those faceoffs, using the part of the game he has the edge to its maximum advantage.
If you must know, the Corsi for the two games have been 69-62 and 91-76, both in favor of the Caps. There's some score effects in there, as teams that are trailing tend to have higher Corsi, but the Caps have had the possession edge, but not nearly by the margin they should have, against a weaker team. The effort hasn't nearly been good enough.
And Carlson has been horrific in his own end. His "defense" on the final sequence was a comedy of errors. There's talk of benching Alzner, but it's really his partner who has been the defensive tire fire (goal scored aside).

I think what we have here is a failure to communicate...
Andersen has made timely saves--including on Obitchkin's breakaway, without Andersen Leafs lose both games. Washington I'm sure will wake up tonight or Wednesday but try this shite against Pittsburgh and they're gonna get smoked.

all i am saying is you cannot keep repeating those mistakes against a team loaded with the talent and scoring ability the caps have. They will make you pay sooner or later. D has to do better helping anderson.

Leafs keep getting better--can we say the same about Caps?

Yes. I think so. I think the better team on that night lost both games. I thought the Leafs played better in Game 1 and the Caps played better in Game 2. The scoreboard went the other way because... that's the way the puck bounces. But I was happier with the Caps' effort in Game 2 than Game 1.

Schmidt likely in tonight. Alzner likely out.
