Again, this is the fricking problem. You likely also would have bet your life on USA baseball not losing to Italy.

It wouldn’t be the team that lost to Iowa State.

Yea, instead it's the team that could only muster 6 points at home against a team that could barely move the ball.

2003 was also the start of conferences raiding conferences. That year is when the ACC took VT, BC, and Miami out of the Big East.

I don’t give a shite about USA baseball. Baseball is a different animal anyway.

You lose to a 6-7 ISU team late in the year, sorry, no reason to bitch.

It's hilarious watching this thread turn into a LSU cry baby fest about 2011.

The point sails straight over head. Unsurprising.

Ok fine, 2007 Patriots Giants superbowl then. Only a buffoon would have bet against the Pats.

I'd argue that losing at home late in the year, not winning your division or conference, and having less wins is worse

The SEC West wasn’t a normal division though

This was the exact thought I had after I saw that S post.

Best part about that is the 2nd half started and LSU immediately had a pick 6 by a d lineman… Whatever you say Bobby

Sure, buddy.

If OSU had been undefeated, I would have favored them over Bama for the BCS championship even if I thought Bama was better. But OSU fricked up too - and against a terrible team with a losing record.

Too bad.

I still get irrationally angry when I think of Pete Carroll saying smugly to the reporter on the field right after beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl: "I think we just won a National Championship".

frick him for the rest of his life.

The media blowing of Matt Leinart that season was truly untakeable.

And also never forget how little homework the College Gameday folks had done on an LSU team that was so great in the 2nd half of the season. Corso kept saying "ol;' #84" because it was obvious he had no idea who Marcus Spears was, which is preposterous.

I mean, he had never started a game, yet put up better numbers than Carson Palmer did in 2002 when he won the Heisman.

That makes no logical sense. You can't argue Bama was the obviously better team and then say you'd favor the lesser team just because a 2OT game when the other way. I mean, you can, but you're just proving how ridiculous your thought process is considering earlier in the thread you said you'd bet your life on Bama.

If OSU had been undefeated and LSU had already beaten Bama once in Tuscaloosa, I would say they deserved the opportunity to play for the national championship even if I thought LSU would kick the shite out of them.

But they lost… to Iowa State… that finished 6-7. When that happens, an average program isn’t going to get the benefit of the doubt over a top program.

I said, “If I had to bet my life…” Meaning if I had to bet on a game regardless of anyone’s rank, schedule, whatever. Who am I taking if my life depends on it? It sure as shite wouldn’t have been OSU.

At no point in 2011 did I think OSU was better than Bama, but I would have been for them having the opportunity to prove me wrong against LSU.

If they hadn’t lost to Iowa fricking State.

It didn't fail. The two best teams were determined based on the criteria that was agreed to before the season.

That's why the whole "split" title was nauseating. No, one team won based on what was predetermined to be the means for establishing the title of champion.

Can you blame him? His team at the time was ranked #1 in both major human polls and beat #4 Michigan by two scores in the Rose Bowl. Obviously he’s going to campaign for a split.
