1995 Nebraska dominant stats

This is over 11 games, not including the Fiesta Bowl Annihilation of Florida.
When you have a RB that averages 7 ypc, that's an impressive stats. This team averages 7ypc(maybe a record?). Think about it. That's every time they ran the ball and by every players combined.
You have the three head monster of Frazier, Green, and Phillips. And you throw in FB Makovicka. Combined, these 4 have only 55% of the team's rush attempts. So They were getting pull by mid 3rd Qtr most games. 14 other players also ran the ball that year. These are backups, 3rd stringers, some walk-ons. These guys ran for close to 1800yds avg at 7 ypc.
17 different offensive players scored a TD.
14 different players had at least an interception.
12 different players sacked the QB.
Can they beat the 2019 LSU team? Probably not as players get bigger, stronger, faster, and better conditioning over time. I mean... 1958 LSU National Championship team wouldn't beat the 2019 Bowling Green team. But for what they did on the field during their time, the 95 Huskers were damn impressive.

I don’t think anyone is under the impression that 95 Nebraska wasn’t a great team

You're not even counting the fact they beat the second best team in the country, a team coached by a legend with a Heisman QB, by 38 in the championship game.
They beat Nick Saban 50-10 that year.
They're the best college football team I've ever seen compared to their contemporaries.

I mean there is a reason they have routinely been held up as one of the most dominant teams to ever lace them up
Posted on 1/14/20 at 9:26 pm to PeteRose
They didn’t give up a sack all season. A single one. That’s mind blowing

National title game rushing yards
Nebraska 68-524. Florida 21- (-)28

I understand this is just part of sports, but I really don't get why we have to compare these 2 teams. They are from 2 different eras of college football. One dominated every team put in front of them, while the other put together the single most impressive season in terms of the number of ranked teams they beat and the records and awards they amassed.
They are both great for different reasons--reasons that cannot and should not be compared.

I agree. Difficult to compare as the landscape has drastically changed.
End of the day they will always be compared and debated as it is fun and interesting to compare great teams
I would take it as high honor that this LSU team is in the discussion.
Both have great accolades and it’s ok to disagree on which is most impressive. That’s just being a fan.
End of the day both are great teams that did things no other team did before them.
Welcome to the club 2019 Tigers. The conversations will never end. It’s not a bad thing to be able to debate where you belong amongst the all-tine great teams.

Everything is different now from just 25 years ago. Yeah, there was the occasional physical freak of nature on a couple different teams. Now there are entire teams full of those freaks. Strength and conditioning has come so far that average teams now could beat really good teams from times past strictly because of that. You don’t have a guy on the cutting edge of nutrition and strength, you aren’t going to win, no matter how good your game plan is.
And of course this isn’t even including offensive and defensive innovations, rule changes that teams then didn’t have to worry about then that they do now, etc.

What kind of offense were they running?
Seems a bit of a system type deal when your 14th string RB is shredding everyone.

A 6-5-1 MSU team
That's a great Neb team but this is not one of their major accomplishments

Had a few guys that had solid careers could argue that Wistrom was a star, Green showed flashes at times
By and large though definitely not a pro star studded team
Ahman Green
Grant Wistrom
Mike Rucker
Mike Minter
Had a bunch of other guys who posted around 5 years.
Had the Peters brothers not been totally insane it’s scary to think what they could have done

Yeah, their best player was probably Ahman Green. How many pro bowlers did they have? When you look at 2001 Miami, they were loaded with talent yet 1995 Nebraska has far more impressive team stats.
