re: #1 ranked Iowa State Men’s Cross Country team finds themselves in a pickle

When I was in college, NW State invested in two Kenyans that I would usually be neck & neck with in CC races. Blew my mind they spent money bringing those dudes overseas for that kind of production; however, a coach who is part of that scene told me years later it can be tough to vet their ages and real results. And I’m sure a program like NW State ain’t got the resources to conduct its homework like an Alabama.
Makes me wonder if South Alabama had a real connect to score David Kimani the way they did, or if they just rolled the dice and got lucky.
LSU during the same time has a dude who I think was from Jamaica that was a pretty damn good distance runner. It seemed rare for them to invest in foreign distance runners, though. Almost like they just conceded the distance stuff in the SEC to Arkansas and went after sprinters.

They'll come to smaller programs, do well, then get poached by high NIL budget programs after one or two good seasons.
I thought foreign athletes couldn’t receive money from NIL… something about visas

Kenyans don't need to dope
But they do. Several of their elite world class runners have been busted recently.. Doping is so widespread in Kenya that they are classified as High Risk for doping by AIU.

I was going to say Ruth Chepngetich just caught a three year ban this month for doping.

I don't understand colleges spending resources on non-revenue sports. How many thousands of people spend money to go to a track meet? I get spending money on football, basketball, baseball and at some schools money on women's volleyball and hockey and at LSU gymnastics. Those sports bring in people. You don't have to make gobs of money, but if you can bring in a few thousand people or more then it makes sense to spend money on it. I want LSU to have good sports programs, but no one spends money on going to swimming, tennis, golf, track and a few other sports. We should treat the athletes well in those sports but why in the hell spend all that money? I get that you don't expect academic programs to make money, but sports are extra. A few programs bring in millions to support other programs and those are the programs you spend money on. The programs that bring in millions.

They are being groomed by programs who are setting them up with these schools in America (even at the high school level now) and the athletes may not be profiting from it but I guarantee you their handlers are. Slimy af and lol at the guy saying Kenyans don't need to dope. Whether they need to or not is irrelevant, they are.

Kenya is walking a very thin line with doping right now. Their enforcement at the local level is nearly non-existent, and if they weren’t a “developing nation” they’d probably have already caught a Russia-style ban.

hate when teams sell out on Kenyans instead of investing in American talent but I will say some of my best teammates in college (in terms of just being genuinely good people) were the Kenyans.
College soccer is even worse with European and South American players

lol. Cross country doping scandal.
This is about as sad as when the Iowa DCI ruined a bunch of athletes lives and reputations over $10 prop bets.

The two we had in Monroe when I got there were just wired different. Dudes didn’t do shite over the summer. Show up day 1 and drop a 26 flat 8k trial like it was nothing.
